For anyone concerned about security then the following may be useful. It's been said before that '3rd party aggregation' tools are against most banks T&Cs, indeed... it's even against Egg's T&Cs to give your Egg login details to a 3rd party aggregation service (except Citibank).

However Egg Money Manager isn't a 3rd party aggregation tool (well not according to Egg anyway). It's a 'user driven aggregation' service. This means you're not disclosing any password information to a third party (ie Egg) and they never know/store/see your passwords. See here:

Of course that doesn't necessarily mean that its still not against your banks T&Cs. But, how would they know you're using EMM anyway? And, you're covered by the Egg Guarantee:

    http://new.egg.com/visitor/0,,3_89059--View_1949,00.html

"We guarantee to repay you any money that is taken from your Egg account or any third party account aggregated via Egg Money Manager as a result of fraud, unless you have failed to follow our security guidelines and terms and conditions."

Personally I've been using EMM for a couple of years now (got the £10 back when I started so can't get it again) and it saves me a lot of time and hassle. The bit I find most useful is just the total of your positive/negative balances. I used my 0% overdraft on my student account to 'top up' the balance of my ISA and with paying the full balance each month on credit cards etc it means I can easily see/manage my accounts so that if something happens I know I'd be able to clear the debts with my savings.
  • Re the £10 'gift' from Egg - I have a few small savings accounts with Egg and have had their 'Money Manager' for some time. I've just added (last week) a new savings account to this but have not so far received the £10. The 'Egg' website does not mention this free £10 anywhere?

If you've added a 'non-Egg' account with EMM before then you won't get the £10. It's only for people who add their first non-Egg account, and then the £10 is given to you before 31st August 07, it doesn't give an exact date.

I know from previous experience when I got my £10 a couple of years ago it took around a month or so for me to see the credit on my Egg Card.

**edit** just re-read your post... do you mean you opened up a new Egg savings account? If so then the £10 reward isn't for anything like that...

You need to add an external bank details, for instance... if you use internet banking for your current account, you need to add the log-in details for your current account and then you'll get the £10 credit (if its the 1st time you've done it).

If you're unsure about what I've just said its best to take a look at the EMM demo, here:

Ok, I have just added a couple of non egg accounts.

Don't know if I'll get the tenner as I already had a couple of other accounts in my Egg monney Manager!

    It's quite useful though !

I couldn't add my HSBC current account either, it just kept failing. I was worried I was going to miss out, as I don't have any other accounts, but I've just added my Paypal account thanks to this thread! :)
  • Just to answer the earlier question on having more than one Egg account (e.g. a married couple or similar, sharing the same PC)

My wife and I both have the Egg Card. I didn't get round to using EMM, as was a bit unsure as to safety (as picked up on other posts). Having read the small print and the way it worked, felt more assured. However, the EMM "free £10" offer (the original one), had expired. When it came up again though (this time on my wife's card) - I did both accounts. I knew she should get hers, but wasn't expecting the free tenner for mine.

It credited both :T So thanks, great tip, and £20 free for us. For reference it took about 6 weeks for Egg to credit the accounts with the £10. We then deleted the attached accounts (another card). Purely for peace of mind - although am sure it is secure as pointed out.

EMM is a great tool - I use it every day and have 4 current accounts, 6 credit cards, mortgage, and a number of savings products. I believe it is safe, and besides - if I were ever to have money stolen from my account - the last thing I would tell the bank is I use EMM or anything else for that matter.

Regarding those people who are already registered with EMM - if you call the customer services and ask them about the whereabouts of your £10 credit they will usually credit the money there and then. If they ask when you registered it does require you to inform them that you registered recently.

It worked for me with EMM and mobile banking!

Damn. Added and old credit card to the EMM this morning but I hadn't noticed the bit at the bottom which basically says if you haven't activated your Egg card yet you don't get the tenner. Still waiting for my card so I opened a savings account and did it again. I had deleted the credit card just after adding it this morning. Just added a different one. Will I still get the tenner?
