Money Moral Dilemma: Should Hermione contribute to Harry's dog Ron?

My boyfriend and I found a kitten, she was so sweet. But even though I thought she was lovely, I didn't want the responsibility of a pet. However, the boyfriend talked me into it - and when I asked what would happen if we broke up, he said he would take it.
Two years later, we broke up, and he refused to take the cat. After a bit of a stand off, I took it as I couldn't stand the thought of it going to the RSPCA. His excuse was that 'He never thought we would break up' so he never thought realistically about looking after the cat.
For the first few years, I paid for the day to day, but he helped with the vet bills. But when she got in a nasty accident he said he was broke and refused to pay. So I was left with $$$.
I kind of understand, as I was getting the pleasure of having her around, but at the same time, it was still a responsibility I didn't ask for.
The biggest regret was/is that I always have to figure out what to do with my cat if I want a holiday, as I don't have family nearby to help out.
The moral of the story is think twice about getting a pet with somebody - seriously consider whether if they weren't around, you'd be willing to look after it full time. If not, put your foot down and don't get one.0 -

Are answers on this site not monitored? I think it appalling firstly that Elliot has said what they have and that secondly, its been allowed to be shown. With calous disgusting answers such as that, it creates a case in my mind for a number of human beings to be 'put to sleep'.

Sorry, I'm a bit of a grumble weed today, no offence intended ... well it might be, but I'll be sorry.0 -
If the rumours are true, Harry may not be around much longer.
IMO he should make a will leaving Ron to Hermione before He who must not be named catches up with him.

No - if they decided bewteen them that harry should keep the dog then he should pay. Why should Hermione pay when she doesn't get to keep the dog?Friends are angels who lift us to our feet when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly.0

Unfortunately six months later they split up and although they both want him, it's decided Ron would be better off with Harry. Struggling to deal with household bills alone, Harry notices how much of an expense Ron is and asks Hermione to pay towards the day to day costs of him, as they both made a commitment to Ron.

Nope - she should not contribute.
They have split up and it was jointly agreed that Harry has Ron. It appears that no arrangements were made at the time to share Ron's costs and, in the interest of a clean break, I assume that no access was agreed for Hermione either. So why suddenly arrange for her to make a financial contribution now?
If, however, Hermione is having regular access to Ron, then I am sure she would be more than willing to share in the cost of his upkeep.0 -
He obviously had a say in who had poor little pooch; he agreed to have him, therefore he pays. He should have thought more about it beforehand, particularly if he's struggling financially.0

No - she shouldn't have to contribute unless she has regular access to Ron or she wants to because it was agreed that Harry has Ron and so Harry should take responsibility.
IMO and if it were me, if it was a one off thing - short of cash - then I'd probably buy a few tins/bags of dog food to make sure Ron was being fed OK, but if Harry said that this was going to be an ongoing situation and there was no way that I (or Hermione) could take Ron then I'd help rehome him. The welfare of the animal should take priority if either can look after him properly then find someone who can.0 -
Cut the dog in half and have 50% each
 If only it was that easy, I'd probably still get the sh*tty end!!!! :rotfl: Arhhh but then I suppose I wouldn't have the food bill end;)
I've got 2 and I've made it easy (I think!!!), one is registered in my name (I wanted the dog in the first place) and then when we decided to get her sister as well I got her registered in both our names so if we ever split then I'll more than likely get the two cause he wouldn't want to see them split:dance:0
