Some Amazon cards pay 1% and some 0.5%. It depends when you applied - they changed the cashback from time to time.

I think mine started off at 1% and then reduced to 0.5% at some point. I've been using my Santander 123 and Luma cards where I can and Amazon for everything else. I think I've got an M and S one somewhere so might be a good time to dust it off.

  • What we need is a 'Moneysaving Expert' 1% cashback card... it would clean up!!!

This one (1.25%) looks to be about the best of the bunch now for higher spenders:

    £25 annual fee but:

5% cashback on up to £2,500 of purchases in your first 3 months of Card membership

2.5% cashback on all purchases for one month every year if you spend more than £10,001 in your previous 12 months of Card membership

An ongoing 1.25% cashback on virtually every full pound you spend

£21 cashback if you apply through Topcashback.

Not perfect (because of the fee, and because Amex isn't universally accepted - you'll need a second card) but if you spend a fair bit on your card it's likely to be worth switching to.

yes, i have a great deal from American Express, accepting that some retailers do not accept Amex.

but as a non-Amex card....not sure where to go.

Initial thoughts are: see if Barclaycard actually come up with something for those of us losing Barclaycard World or Barclaycard Hi5, with the talk of a 'single card alternative' here & elsewhere, or potentially get another HHonors card (had one until a few months ago) and go for points to back up Amex cashback.

Be careful if you are going to close the Amazon account so you don't lose the accumulated cashback - see my post here http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=66325293&postcount=995

I've just called MBNA at their Amazon CC number 0800 917 5235 and they told me that the Amazon MasterCard is being replaced by either:

    - a MBNA MasterCard
    - a dual Amex + Visa set of cards

Which of those you get as a replacement is apparently decided by them and should be stated in the letter (I've got the MasterCard).

I've been told that on both cases loyalty points will be awarded on all money spent on those (at 1 point per £ on Visa and MasterCard and 2 points per £ on Amex).
No mention though about the value of those points.

Assuming points will have the same value as in the MBNA More Rewards Credit Card Account (the dual Amex + Visa), any one knows the value of points awarded on that one?

They also said they have no way of stopping the new card (or cards) being sent to you other than closing the account, so no point on calling them to ask for that unless you want to loose already accrued Amazon points.

Some quick Googling suggests the MBNA points are worth 0.5p, so that's 0.5% on Visa/Mastercard spending (source).

    Thanks dj1471.
So cashback higher than 0.5% for all spending on non Amex cards is gone (other than lastminute.com's one, if that works for you and MBNA don't discontinue it too).

Unless you spend £300-£500 a month, then the Halifax Clarity Reward card works out at 1% (on £500 spend).

I would expect the lastminute card's days to be numbered, given every other 1% Mastercard has been discontinued in the last 12 months...

    :(

Agreed, but I do spend way more than that on the Clarity due to regular travelling, so it works out as much less than 1% for me, although I save 3% on currency conversion rates so still happy with it.

Indeed, I expect that one to go away soon too.

1% everywhere, 3% in store and on their website in the form of vouchers for them. no fee mastercard

As someone said the amex cashback with 5% for first 3 month annual fee can be mostly taken care of by going though topcashback.

Santander 123 credit card, fee can be taken care of for 1st year if you have a 123 account, or go though topcashback and get £13.12 if your a premium member.
Good thing about this card is it also comes with 18 months of 0% so can combine with stoozing.

Amex nectar card 1% everywhere in form of nectar points + 20000 points if spend £2000 in 1st 3 months.
Nectar points can be worth more than 1p per 2 points occasionally when there is a sort of boost thing going on.
£25 fee currently £31.50 topcashback available.

Card I aim to get when amazon close down is the Amex gold, no fee in 1st 12 months, reward cashback equivalent varies depending on what you select to convert your points to. Tesco vouchers for example I think its about 0.5% back. However for 1st 12 months you get double points on petrol and supermarket spend, and double on spending abroad.

You get 20000 points if spend £2000 in 1st 3 months (£100) in Tesco vouchers for example.

There is a bit of an anomaly with this card is that amazon sometimes gets credited as abroad spend so you get 1% back, other examples of these anomalies is that sometimes when you buy petrol you get 4 points per £1 spend.

    Hope helps someone.
