  • I do not think that this has been mentioned yet, but does anyone else think that Amazon might be launching its own version of a credit card before long? I mean the company has been around for a long time, established itself, if PayPal could do it, why not Amazon to be honest?

    I got the letter this morning too. But, a quick google - and there's some hope! :-

    Thank you for your interest in Amazon.co.uk Credit products. This page is currently being updated. We appreciate your patience. Please return later to apply for your Amazon Credit product. Thank you.
    I'll wait and see what new credit card Amazon is offering before looking elsewhere I think. Will definitely be ditching the basic MBNA card though!
    However, they have had that message for around 6 months now so I would not hold my breath!
  • RIP, Amazon credit card!

    It was one of the best deals around because:
    • It's a Mastercard, so you can use it anywhere - no need to carry a separate Amex, and no need to get lower reward rates in small businesses that don't take Amex.
    • It gives 1% back, in Amazon vouchers which are near-cash, on everything - that's pretty much market leading unless your spending and flying habits mean you can really max out the value of an Avios card (mine don't)
    • It has no annual fee.
    This card was co-branded with Amazon, and they pushed it pretty heavily through their site. It wasn't available through MBNA's site as far as I remember - it was pretty much Amazon's own card that MBNA administered for them.

    It will be a shame to see it go.

    Does anyone know of any decent/equivalent alternatives? There are plenty of cards that give 0.5%, but this is the only one I know of without a fee where the rewards even approached 1%!

    What card will people be going to next? There's nothing this good out there any more!

    It seems to be a recurring pattern with any really good cash-back card deal - they seem to stay around long enough to get popular and well-used, then suddenly they get pulled and replaced with a bog-standard card. :( I was using the Aqua Card (3%) before I switched over to the Amazon MasterCard (1-2% depending on where you purchased). Santander's 1-2-3 Card would be a contender, but my spending pattern means I wouldn't really make much out of it. Seriously thinking of trying to get a 0% card instead, set up a minimum monthly payment on it, then pay off the balance once the 0% period is nearly up. At least that way, I'd be keeping my cash in my Santander 1-2-3 current account where it's earning some decent interest for me.
  • They have been looking to push their own credit card payment system but I don't know much about whether they are going to do their own credit card too, they can't exactly do their own mastercard / visa / amex until they are in 70%+ stores. Though maybe that is the master plan with their card system.

    If you hold a Nationwide account and don't have one already the Select Credit Card could be a decent option 15 months 0% on purchases plus 0.5% cash back. Earn 0.5% cash back on each purchase, only pay the minimum and earn 3% on the balance in your Santander 123.

    I am wondering if there is any other good cashback offers? Asda seems to be one of the best, the MSE credit card cashback page doesn't even mention it. Probably couldn't get an affiliate link.

    My favourite type of card
    * 1 % cashback
    * No annual fee
    * Mastercard / Visa
    * Quarterly or Half a year payment - annual payment is LONG

    Cheers.
    Despite the mess they have made of the change to the two card system In reckon that Barclaycard Amex and VISA is a reasonable deal. I a have found that 90% of my spend is on the Amex card that pays 1%. The cashback can be taken at any time.

    Maybe a 3 month 5% AmEx cashback card until Christmas/New Year spending is over, and unless another 1+% card comes up, will probably move into slow-stoozing rather than stick with 0.5% cashback on things.

    Its very sad that they are getting rid of the reward.
    I moved to Amazon/MBNA when Paypal closed their own cashback card offer.
    At the moment, can't find anything above 0.5% on Mastercard. Already used up my 3 months with Capital One.

    Following this thread to see if anyone comes up with anything new.
