I remember some years ago being in M&S and someone trying to take some underwear back. The supervisor took one look at the gusset of the pants and said no. The customer scurried away looking extremely embarrassed!
It's almost unbelievable that anyone could try that on!0 -
Don't be such a !!!!!!0

What do you mean, you can't afford to buy anything new? Look around, there are bargains everywhere, unless you need to show off about the labels in your clothes!! Never even think of doing this, it's disgusting and dishonest. People who need to wear "labels" need to get a life, no-one thinks any better of you.0

Seriously - did you really have to seek advice from others on this? Of course it's NOT acceptable for all the reasons pointed out by other responders.
There are many ways to dress smartly for little money - Primark on the High Street, Ebay (I have bought loads of clothes fro ebay - in fact I'm having trouble remembering when I last went into a shop and bought clothes), charity shops have some real bargains. They might stock clothes which have been worn before BUT you know that in advance and you simply bring them home and launder them before you wear.0 -
I went to a wedding about 25 years ago where many of the guests (including the bride!!!) disappeared right after the wedding to go back to a central London M & S to change their clothes for something they could wear to the reception (which they then returned again the next day!!)
I was horrified, it would never occur to me to do that
Having said that, I have been in stores and tried on dresses etc that are covered in make up foundation and reeking of perfume, so I guess its more prevalent than we all think!!
Its a filthy, disgusting, thing to do. I don't have much money, and when I do manage to raise the funds to buy something new (usually I shop in charity shops, or make do and mend), the thought of someone doing this makes my blood boil. I do realise that people do have to try on clothes to make sure they fit, and sometimes even their hygiene is questionable, but to knowingly wear something all day, and then take it back and pass it off as "new" is immoral, and if it isn't against the law, then it should be0 -
If he can't afford new then buy secondhand from charity shops or jumbles/carboots,you can quite often pick up some great deals.Best yet for me has been a pair of virtually brand new shoes in penzance and two casual suit jackets in exeter, each under £8,bargain.What your friend is doing could be seen as a type of theft and sooner or later someone's going to refuse the refund.0

No - it's wrong on so many levels.0

Wasn't going to reply to this- this seemed like such an obvious answer I was wondering if it was aimed at those who had failed their exams this year so they could feel better about getting the right answer for something.
I think the question is very easily answered by the question: if you knew the clothes you were about to pay full price for had been worn, and it wouldn't bother you to look elsewhere on the rail to find an "unworn version" in your size then fine, but unless you really don't value the cash you spend, I think the answer for that is pretty straightforward.
Do and be done by.0 -
Why are you even asking?
Tell your "friend" that what they are doing is repulsive and disgusting and I would never be friends with anyone who did something so dishonest and disgusting.
If you can't afford new then go to charity shops and Ebay - you can get real bargains on there.
Don't drop yourself to their very, very low level.0 -
No its totally wrong - cant imagine doing that. There's so many ways to alter outfits - by adding a scarf, Jewellrey etc. so many cheap clothes - and charity shops plus car boots - all it needs from charity shops and car boots is to wash the clothes when you get home and they are fine.
I was trying a load of black trousers on for work a while back - in M&S - one pair before I tried on I noticed looked scruffy - really worn on the crotch area - I took them to the sales assistant who agreed they were no doubt a pair someone had worn to store and swapped - apparently it happens a lot - awful - made me feel guilty but she said she knew it was not me - I felt I needed to let them know horrible someone could do that. I've also seen staff on customer returns sniffing under the arms on some clothing and refusing to refund.
I've also seen make up on clothes in shops - think that's bad too - easy to avoid.Sealed Pot Challenge number 8 Amount declared £365.50.
