The continuing saga of my job

Any further progress on setting up your own business? I'd love to take the leap too (and from a job I hate, that drives me to tears) so would love to know that other people are brave enough to do it!0

Well your going to be even more proud of me now because I've just walked out! Now sitting in a cafe in town shaking a bit but know I've done the right thing.
Words of encouragement wouldn't go amiss now instead of a dissing!0 -

Yes if you look at my last post you'll see what's happened. New business will be following soon. Just as soon as I've stopped shaking!0 -
Oh well done, I've been through similar in the past, trust me it will work out OK in the end.
As far as your children's parties idea is concerned, could you rent village halls etc when you need them rather than being based in a leased business, at least until you know the business is viable.

Well done for taking that step! Whatever you do DO NOT GO BACK!
Onwards and upwards now0 -
Sounds like the right move0

Good for you! What happened to make you finally walk out?
I think a lot of us have fantasised about walking out of jobs we hate but to actually do it takes a lot of courage0 -
I'm replying because I was in a similar situation 18 mths ago. I worked for a failing charity, 20 hours a week term time only. I liked my trustees but, to be fair they weren't really committed to the charity. I knew the writing was on the wall but I'd left once before and it hadn't worked out and I returned to the charity with my confidence a little dented. I was picking up under 500 pounds a month it was a job I liked but I knew it wasn't enough.
Well, the notice came at Xmas along with my Mom dying in agony from cancer. I was 49 and was applying for jobs I hated the look of, I even gave wrong answers at interview at one 'cos I knew the location, pay and everything was wrong about the job. I went for another job in a charity I could have done with my eyes closed and was unsuccessful, (even tho I didn't want another job in that sector and was unsure of the people running the project, found them smug and a little london centric. ) I went for a selection event and misread the test and was unsuccessful for a job I really wanted. I remember bursting into tears infront of my friends afterwards I felt such a failure.
I went for another interview for a job I wanted on the railways, I didn't even make it to the interview I remember trudging home from Crewe to Birmingham feeling so deflated. I felt I couldn't get anything right.
Anyway, when hme I saw another job advertised for the same company but closer to hme it sounded amazing, everything I was good at but temp for a year, I sent of the application not thinking I'd hear anything. I did, went for the interview thinking they made a mistake (I'd even put my hair up so they didn't recognize me,, they did however) and I got the job thru a fluke that no one passed the written test.
Ten of us were employed on a temp contract and I was one of the lucky 3 offered a full time role after 9 mths.
I love my job, I love the people I work with. I earn six times as much as I did before for 15 hrs more a week. Sometimes its hard I've had to learn a lot but honestly if things hadn't gone bad I'd never had this opportunity or the confidence to go for it.
The only regret I have is my Mom didn't see me be successful.
This is only a dip, one person in a failing charity ( and believe me I know how hard it is to get grants and the terms and conditions needed to satisfy the payment) you are better away from the stresses and culture of low pay and unpaid work and lack of resources.
There is so much more out there. But if ever I stray from the path I follow
Take me down to the English Channel
Throw me in where the water is shallow And then drag me on back to shore!
'Cos love is free and life is cheap As long as I've got me a place to sleep
Clothes on my back and some food to eat I can't ask for anything more0 -
Well done for leaving. I have worked in the sector and know how bad things can be. You can only take so much. Look forward and develop your skills and confidence again. Above all sleep well and destress. The very best of luck to you.0

Well I've had a productive day since my last post.
I've contacted the charity commission and informed them of a charity that's making a £10,000 loss every year, I've also told them how the 4 trustees are closely related to each other.
I've started tribunal proceedings as I have never had a wriiten contract, never had a job description, never actually been told what my job title is, never been allowed to take a holiday, suffered victimisation in the work place and have witnesses.
Contacted environmental health about the state of the kitchen.
Contacted the safeguarding team about how nobody in a centre for vulnerable adults has attended a training course in safeguarding vulnerable adults.
That's just for starters. Lol!0
