The continuing saga of my job

As some of you might know I've been having some trouble with my employers. One thing is not letting me take holiday which I'm due, nasty comments from the trustees and committee that run it and its a failing charity with a loss of £10,000 a year.
They still are saying that I cannot take holiday I am due because they are short of volunteers. I do the payroll of my own wages so I am going to put on it that they owe me 11 days holiday and add it to the 11 days they wouldn't let me have last year! Am I right in thinking the trustees will be liable for this when it closes?
If you want background please look at some past threads of mine where I've given loads of info.
Mentally I've had enough. I absolutely hate working there. I burst into tears on Sunday with the thought of going back to work Monday and was crying all the way to work.
I've been to lots of interviews for jobs just lately but not been successful in getting one. I feel like I'm trapped in a job I hate which is making me depressed and ill. If I leave I think we will get extra WTC as there will only be my husband working. But then ill feel guilty about not working.
Also I've been thinking of starting my own business and have a great idea. But the big dilemma is do I leave and take a big risk on the business idea and potentially be a lot happier or do I stick it out to get a regular income but be miserable, stressed and feeling ill all the time?
Your thoughts will be appreciated but please keep it nice as I'm tearful enough!

It's clear you are working for idiots, who have no clue about employment law, or about their legal responsibilities. You seem to be stressed out and there is no sign of them changing their ways.
If I were you I would be very tempted to leave and give your own business idea a go. leave behind what is making you miserable and put your time and effort into something you want to do.0 -
I agree that it is best to leave this job: anything must be better than that. I am speaking as someone who has worked in the charity world and seen a large number of clueless people there.
Your business ideas might blossom once you got away from the toxic atmosphere.
If you are getting interviews but not job offers, they must like your CV. Perhaps this job has damaged your confidence.Who having known the diamond will concern himself with glass?

I agree it might be best if you leave, I've been there as well in a job I hated, give it a go at running your own business.0

I would 100% say go for it. Starting a business is not easy and there will be difficult times but I did it four years ago and although up to 1 1/2 years it was really difficult, no money, self funding the rewards are just starting to come.
No job is worth making yourself feel sick for. Take a holiday and then leave!Happiness, Health and Wealth in that order please!:A0 -
And what would they do if you fell under a bus? Or were signed off sick with stress / depression by your GP?
Honestly, no-one is indispensable.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Enforcement agencies can become involved with workplace stress issues.

Start pushing back, you're only contracted for 16 hours aren't you yet do a lot more....start doing just your contractual hours.
Whats the worst you going to do, get sacked? Well you want to leave anyway
No reference.....are you actually hopeful you'll get a reference anyway?

Tomorrow afternoon I am going to view 3 commercial properties with a view to starting a business.
If I go self employed I won't be needing a reference but even if I did a past committee member who left because of the rubbish new committee members we have now is willing to give me a glowing reference. Also the charity I worked for before this one is giving a reference.
Today we've had a volunteer get very vocal about what she thinks about the charity right in front of customers. She's starting a new job in a weeks time so she said she's going to let rip !
My husband hates seeing me so upset all the time when before I've always been a cheerful optimistic person. He said he's behind me no matter what I decide to do.
If I decide to start this business I will take my 2 weeks holiday and while I'm off write them a letter saying I'm not coming back!0 -
Good, I can't see anything but disaster ahead for this charity, so you're better to get out now before your stress levels get any worse. Best of luck with your business idea.0
