If you have done some nimble footwork to hold three accounts on your own, you shouldn't be surprised if the bank feels the need to investigate you.
I have never been investigated by any bank or financial institution in all my life. I was already a Santander customer before I opened those 123-accounts. Now, there was no need to do 'some nimble footwork" Santander could have rejected my 2nd and 3rd application for those accounts, right? But they didn't ! In fact they were very happy that I put quite a bit of money into those accounts. Besides, it's up to the Banks whether to accept applications for any of their accounts, correct? But that was not the issue in my case.
The problem with Santander and Abbey National previously is their system is flawed and their staff badly trained to handle things. Just check the reviews of Santander ! No other Bank in the UK has received so many complaints.
I've only experienced problems with Santander and no other Bank. Nat West for example (with whom I have accounts for almost three decades) never gave me a reason to complain, perhaps their online system is first class and perhaps their staff better trained.
I am not a complainer but if a company is incompetent then they need to be told for their shortcomings.0 -

what do you mean by "and who pays'?
Are you referring to Santander or the Financial Ombudsman ?
"Some would say a short sighted view" please explain in what way ?
Are you suggesting to accept any nonsense and bad treatment from companies and let them get away scot-free?0 -
Well some banks do? some dont? the hell if i know.... i know HSBC does... and nationwide does....
you can't just 'cash in' 5 grand and expect to walk away clean WITHOUT hearing anything from them... don't be stupid lol,
Balls. I've transferred four, five and six figure sums with no warning and no problem whatsoever.0 -

There should be no need to explain as to who actually foots the bill. Common sense really.0 -

So, if people have suffered distress and lost out due to incompetence by financial companies or any company for that matter should keep quiet? Is that what you are trying to suggest? And you call that common sense my friend? Truly a strange attitude. Tell that to all those who lost money through sloppiness or the mishandling of funds or the PPI scandal victims. Wonder how you would react if you had been affected.0 -
The point is that there is not much, if anything at all, that will go wrong with one or multiple 123 accounts (as manifested by many posters here, over a couple of years). This isn't because people do not "have a bit of experience in handling money and finance", or aren't "computer savvy and do 98% of all their money transaction online". It's just because it all works very smoothly.
Complaining for the hell of it is pointless. PPI is a different subject altogether, nothing to do with accounts being blocked.
Anyone who has been here for a while will have detected a pattern on "my account has been blocked" threads - - usually the OP never comes back to report the eventual outcome. May be the current thread will be different?0 -
After about three weeks, I finally received a letter from Santander. The account has released.... Finally!
I will transfer all money out to my another account.0
