Have you got more information on that 5k limit please? I have checked the Santander website and can't find anything. I have a £7.8K bill coming how, how should I pay that?
Not sure about 'Santander' but with HSBC they state if you dump in 5k (just like that) you will be flagged and questioned no doubt (this is from an unknown source or 'cash in')
Long as you can PROVE the income is 'legit' then why you worrying over it?• HSBC (Main A/C)

I did an AML course yesterday and it covered the banks responsibilities, personal responsibility, tipping off and what to look for in customer behaviour amongst other things. I'm not customer facing but it was interesting none the less.
Refusing to answer your banks questions is not helping your cause one little bit. The it's my money why do they need to know nonsense doesn't wash I'm afraid. They need to know as although it's your money it's their system you are putting it through.
And as for them writing to you to tell you they suspect you of money laundering:rotfl:The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -

Chor, you are confusing me. The issue the OP has is with Santander, you said they have a £5K limit, now yo say you aren't sure about Santander. And now you also say that "they" state with HSBC that if you "dump in" ......who is "they"? Can't be a bank as no bank would ever state anything about dumping money in.
I think I'll just go by what others are saying, and what I can see on the banks' websites.0 -
Lith didn't say that a payment over £5000 would lead to your account being blocked.
That is exactly what he said. Not surprised they 'blocked; ya account fella... there is a 5k limit... you should of transfer half over a set time... not ALL IN ONE LUMP SUM.. you've now been red flagged for that.0 -
So I replied him this is our own money, our savings and don't want to answer him more questions.
Your reply to him certainly did you no favours. If you had replied in a more helpful way you could have saved yourself all these problems. Also if you were not sure it was your bank all you had to do was phone back on another phone.
I have had Cahoot (which is part of the same group) block my payments for £1,000 and when they have phoned me I explained the situation and they have always gone through.0 -
I just assume it's the same with all banks... HSBC SANTANDER LLOYDES TSB etc

Why would completely different banking institutions be the same?
If Tesco had a policy on something would you expect Sainsburys, Asda, Waitrose and Morrisons all to have the same policy because they are also supermarkets?0 -

Well some banks do? some dont? the hell if i know.... i know HSBC does... and nationwide does....
you can't just 'cash in' 5 grand and expect to walk away clean WITHOUT hearing anything from them... don't be stupid lol,
But i don't know which banks enforce that rule i 'ASSUME' 'ASSUME' ...... Santander do... because the OP got 'RED FLAGGED'
