This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine too.
Morning all,
Today would have been my dads Birthday, this is the first one since we lost him so It will be a tough day especially for my mum, I think I will try and get her out somewhere later on. We are all going to his favourite pub for lunch tomorrow which is also my sisters birthday.
Managed to get all of dd'd jeand etc washed yesterday, will vary on with another few loads today, it will be nicer for her when she moves out if they are all clean and fresh.
Dinner will be some tiny chorizio ball type sausages which I will serve with rice and peas.
Will do a general tidy round this morning then get mum out somewhere.
Have good days all xx
TTFTM hope you continue to recover xx

Thank you RR for starting today's thread.
Quite cloudy here this morning and definiately cool, but had a good night's sleep.
I have a nail appointment this morning and on the way home must call in for our prescriptions. Himself will pop up to see DD.
Tomorrow we are taking DGS for a carvery to celebrate his AS results. I did check with him yesterday that we are still on for Thursday because you know young people can change plans with a minutes notice.
Sorted freezer out yesterday so I have more of an idea of what we have. I really should keep an inventory, as I know many of you do.
I think that is all my news nothing really exciting today.
Gentle hugs to TTFTM and Molly and anyone else who would like one
Have a good day

dandy-candy I'm glad the funeral went well x
Nice to see you Molly x
redruby I hope today isn't too difficult for you all x
I've just caught up with yesterday's thread but have forgotten most of it already, lol
I had an osteo appointment last night so am a bit sore this morning. It feels better when I'm really warm so will have a hot shower in a mo, it should loosen up. What I do after that depends on how stiff I am. I think she also does something to my brain, I'm so relaxed the day after an appointment that I can't think straight
I have a list of things to do today, what gets done depends on well my brain worksI'll start with grating a load of cheese, chopping veg, making potato salad and boxing up eggs. I'll go through the cupboards and write a shopping list. Also need to do some sewing.

Morning everyone - RR I know today will be difficult so I hope that it goes well and you can remember the happy times.
VERY cold here... definite autumn feel to the morning. Luckily the office is warm, in fact it's always too warm and I've got the window open until others come in.
Quiet day ahead, am away all next week for work and so just sorting out stuff for that. Am in a CBA mood and very tired so I will just meander through the day.
I want to find a rattan/wicker wastepaper bin for the living room - I bought some JL clear plastic ones and really hate them. Nothing wrong with them, they are functional and unobtrusive but I still hate them. Think it's because they are clear and all the rubbish is visible!
Hope the day is good to everyone and that life improves for those having it tough. i

RR I am so sorry I forgot, I hope everything goes as well as it can, and as Gers says try to remember all the happy times.
Will be thinking of you
Much love

Morning all
TTFTM- I hope you slept well and feel able to get up for a bit today x
RR- thinking of you and your family on a difficult day x On my mums first birthday after she died I bought a sky lantern and wrote "Happy birthday, I love you" on it before sending it up to her. It felt really good.
Tru- do you have any knitting/crochet/sewing to do? That's good for achy days!
We're going to look at another house today. It's one I booked before deciding I don't want to move so far away, but it's an empty wreck so we will still go out of curiosity.
Need to take DD clothes shopping this morning which is like pulling teeth for her - she hates it, great for my pocket but I never get the chance to dress my little girly up
Pork chops for dinner tonight if I remember to get them out of the freezer!
Have a lovely day all, hugs to those in need xx0 -
Good morning everyone
It's a lovely sunny day here at the moment but has rained overnight so it's not too warm which is great for me.
Hubby has gone off to work in a good mood as it's his last day before he has five days off. He told me a funny story yesterday of how he was travelling home on the bus and happened to look out the window to see a young woman being sick in a hedge. Her boyfriend was with her doing the gentlemanly thing of holding her hair back but with his other hand he was reaching out and picking blackberries and eating them! My word, he must have had a strong stomach .
I have to have a difficult conversation with my eldest DD very soon as she has unexpectedly got herself a job....which is great.....but she is expecting me to do quite a lot of childcare for her.....not great . I absolutely adore my grandchildren and will be happy to look after them in an emergency but I am simply not up to looking after them especially the 3 year old permanently as it involves doing the school run and I still have many days where I am unable to leave the house.
I feel really mean about it but also quite cross that she has taken it for granted that I will be happy to do it. The thing is, the children have a father just down the road who doesn't work and I think he should help out more. He does have them to sleep a couple of nights a week but doesn't seem keen to see them more than this and also to be honest part of the reason they split up was because he is a control freak and I am afraid he will use this as an excuse to be horrible to my daughter. Oh, it's very complicated and I know I will end up helping her out in the end so I am just having a moan
OS wise I will be blitzing the house with my DD's as it's looking a bit untidy. I will be cooking a cottage pie and preparing pulled pork for tomorrow. My eldest daughter is going to the park with her kids so I will ask if she can drop me off in town on her way as I have to get some electric and gas so I will pop into the butchers and try some of their bacon as the stuff I have been buying from the supermarket is just soggy horrible stuff. I'd rather pay a bit more and eat a bit less if it's nice quality.
Well that's all my waffling for this morning, hope everyone manages to have a lovely day whatever you are up to. Take care xx0 -
Morning all,
RR - Sending you a (((hug)))
Chilly start here again even though the sun is shining. WM is on.
Haven't got much planned for today. Going to see DS1 tomorrow. I am looking forward to seeing him as I haven't seen him since March. He has moved and I have to change trains twice to get there in the shortest time. I am a bit worried as one of the changes is Clapham Junction which looks huge and confusing!
Have a good day0 -

Morning all
I was up earlier to see OH off to work then lay back down for a bit and before you know it, it's 8a.m. and laddo is waking me up. I must have needed that extra sleepThe brood are now eating breakfast / watching TV / arguing over who holds the remote and who held it yesterday
The sun is shining here and it's warmer than it was yesterday but I can feel rain in the air so not sure about putting the washing out. I've cleaned one of the bathrooms and need to get the other one sorted. I've a feeling there might be a dead mouse somewhere in there as there has been an unpleasant smell emanating and we can't see what it is  OH is going to take the bath panel off when he gets home.
Soup last night was delicious although eldest DD wouldn't try it due to the colour. I thought it was a lovely pink (will try and get a photo up later). Not sure she will try today's spinach soup either as that's a lovely green colour
M.I.L is picking the children up for their summer clubs. They go on Tuesdays and Wednesday's during school holidays, which has been a Godsend, if a little expensive. Hopefully this won't be the last year they can attend but OH's firm will be announcing future plans at the end of August including what redundancies are taking place. Sadly we know some are just not who and no-one wants voluntary redundancy. OH thinks he will go and they will keep the younger ones as they can get more out of them for less. I will just be glad once we know, even if it is bad news.
Today I want to make chicken and broccoli bake from here:
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=927191&postcount=250
I can serve that after the soup. I've found, if we have soup, we don't eat as much of the main meal and more is going in the freezer to save for a later date. I want to look up some more quick desserts though to serve for afterwards as the children do like their desserts. I'm just going to have the soup as a heavy meal causes my gallbladder to play up.
I do like this new way of living the only thing I wish, is that I had more energy as it can be very tiring. The house does look cleaner though and everyone is eating better so I will persevere on the days I can and muddle by when days are not so great.
rr I hope today is not too difficult for you and your family. Having the support of each other will help and it's lovely that you can take your mom out for a bit. I also thought it was very sweet that you are all going to your dad's favourite restaurant tomorrow. It's a way of keeping his memory alive.
