Landlord won't post keys

Moving into new rented flat over the weekend but don't know which day (Sat or Sun) as I'm dependent on getting lifts. Have already started paying rent.
Have asked landlord to post keys to me - so I have them whenever I arrive - but he has refused saying I just have to turn up at a 'reasonable' time - letting him know in advance and he will meet me there to give me the keys.
Legally - as I'm paying rent - can't I just have my keys in advance before I arrive - especially as I don't know what day/time I will be arriving.
What can I do? Suggestions? Feeling worried now that landlord is being difficult before I've even moved in - but he has my money.

Get the bus and arrange to meet the landlord at a designated time, not difficult. We’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

what happens if the keys do not arrive in time?
Sat in a sorting office or lost in the post!!!
Would you want the landlord to then change the barrel and get new keys cut?0 -
Don't know what Tome I'll be arriving. Flat is in Birmingham - I'm in London.0

I wouldn't say he's being difficult. I can understand him not wanting to stick them in the post and risking them going awol with the resulting hassle. If he's being flexible about times to hand the keys over, which he is, then I don't see the problem. Surely you'll know by Friday what you're doing, let him know then. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Happy to pay for recorded/registered delivery. I'm dependant on lifts - might not arrive till 2am on Sat night.0

There are trains that travel between Birmingham and London.., hundreds of thousands of people use them.., you don't even need to change lol.
I, in fact, did it about three times, bringing bags and bags (used shopping trolleys and vacuum packed bags wherever possible ) with me.., when moving house. Got pcs there that way, bedding for me and two kids, microwave, clothes, kitchenware, I couldn't list it all.
Or just go there with some bare essentials and depend on the lift when you don't have to meet the LL for keys.
Its only 130 miles, you aren't going transatlantic.0 -
I've got a car-load - hence being dependent upon a lift. Is it really too much to ask for my keys to be posted (recorded/registered delivery)?
He's already got my deposit and a full months rent and a signed contract for 1 year.
If I could get up there on under my own steam - I would - but I've got too much stuff to take on the train and need the lift in a car. I know it will be either Sat or Sun - but won't know what time till an hour or two before we set off. AsI say - might not arrive till 2am in the morning.
Shall I tell landlord to allow a big window for arrival - ie anytime in 48 hrs!0 -
Well how did u sign the contracts?
How did u view the flat?
Absolutely you have rights to the keys, u also have rights to the property. I think the LL is being a little bit stubborn, posting keys is much easier than dealing with tenant and arrival times. Even getting a set cut takes 20 minutes and presumebly he'll keep a set himself.0 -
If u lose them keys he sends thought the post then he will have to get the locks changed and that money will be from ur pocket. Could u ask someone to step in for u and pick them up from him?Yes I use txt speak
GET OVER IT! :P0
