I don't agree. Threads and posts have been vanishing regularly for a while now, so I rarely post on here these days. There are currently both a lot of trolls and a lot of people jumping to the conclusion that new people are trolls and reporting them. A combination of the two means that many threads have been removed unnecessarily, many without having broken any rules that I can see.
"Threads vanishing"? " Posts vanishing"? Trolls?
All I know is that MSE was a great place years back as was Great Britain.0 -

There is also a pack mentality - the minute one person challenges a poster or accuses them of trolling, five or six others follow suit and the threads descend into relentless bickering and haranguing.I'm an adult and I can eat whatever I want whenever I want and I wish someone would take this power from me.

I wish I thought you had been right. Your idea is how it should be. It's an awful shame the atmosphere has changed.. . .I did not speak out
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me..

It's a shame it was removed as i had some VERY helpful parenting tips and interesting reading.
I think at the start the OP was very defensive, and I think a few people reported the thread, but 'she; then came back and apologised for some comments and concluded her decision.
I wonder whether it was the initial reports that had it removed?
This site is becoming disappointing, especially this forum, because of trolling etc...0 -
They were both written by the same troll, it is fairly easy to spot these ones. The writing style is always a longish post using short paragraphs.
However having said that even if there were started by a troll the advise given could be helpful to others.0 -

If I have a long post I use short paragraphs to make it easier for people to follow. So do many others. That doesn't make us trolls.
If those threads were by a troll or trolls, and I actually couldn't care either way, it wouldn't matter because, as you say, the advise given could be helpful to others. What was the point in reporting them?
If people think a poster is a troll all they have to do is refrain from posting on the thread. Problem solved. What happens now is unpleasant, frequently acrimonious and bound to catch some genuine new posters up in the troll net.. . .I did not speak out

You can't say for sure though. You're probably right, but unless people are totally sure or it's totally obvious then people shouldn't say anything unless totally sure.
The majority of times I think it's a troll, I'm usually right tbh. You're right in that you can usually tell from the way they post and the way things are worded so that they get a rise or get people arguing....which is usually the case! :rotfl:
I think until people know for sure they shouldn't call troll.0 -

They were written by the same person (there have been others as well), its not just the style of writing and paragraphs - its the whole tone of it, including the style/tone of their replies.
I totally agree with the bit I have highlighted on your post, what difference does it make who/why someone started it, the advise offered might help others, personally I can't see the harm, if it starts a conversation/debate and is kept friendly and respectful then why not let it run.0 -

Again very true. I never posted on those threads troll, I only mentioned it here as the question was asked and its separate from the original threads.
Normally I don't spot trolls but with this one (who even admitted to one of his threads a while ago). there have been so many in this style I have noticed them.0 -

If they are written by the same person then MSE should IP ban multi users. The trolling and troll hunting (which ironically is probably being started by one of the multi trolls) is killing the forum.
I am getting to the point where if an OP has join date of 2014 I ignore the thread because its going to descend into a bickering farce, I'm also now not paying much attention to any poster with a 2014 join date.0
