We've taken the plunge and ordered Setanta sports on freeview so Ste can watch all the footie games now he has weekends off. :) It's only £9.99 a month but you get loads of football etc and it's MUCH cheaper than sky!!! Our compromise is that I get to spend £10 a month on something completely for me :P
Ste can't wait! lol! £10 a month has got to be cheaper than going to the pub! lol!

  • IA-If you go to your local pharmacist, they will give you your pescription to cover you for a few days till you get another script. Most Anti-D's arent supposed to be stopped suddenly and can cause implications, so I would suggest seeing a pharmacist ASAP.

    Withdrawal Symptoms
Reactions following SSRI withdrawal have been reviewed by many authors. (10-16) Symptoms appear 1-10 days after stopping or, occasionally, after reducing the dosage of an SSRI that has been taken regularly for a few months or more; the time of emergence depends on the elimination half-life of the individual drug. The symptoms differ qualitatively from the usual side-effects profile of SSRIs and from the illness for which they were prescribed. They are usually mild, lasting for an average of 10 days, although they can occasionally be severe and sometimes persist for a longer period. They respond rapidly to re-administration of the SSRI concerned and may be avoided or minimised by gradual tapering of dosage.
A characteristic cluster of symptoms, or syndrome, is described in various reports (Table 1). Somatic symptoms include: disequilibrium, gastrointestinal symptoms, influenza-like symptoms, sensory disturbances, sleep disturbance and, occasionally, extrapyramidal effects. (17) Psychological symptoms include: anxiety, crying spells, confusion, memory problems, aggression and irritability.
Such symptoms have been recorded after withdrawal of all the SSRIs (paroxetine, sertraline, fluoxetine, fluvoxamine and citalopram). The true incidence is not known, but the relative risk appears to be greatest with paroxetine and least with fluoxetine.
Just found this which reassures me a bit. Especially as I'm on fluoxetine...

Just to add that I once went to visit some friends for a week once and forgot my anti-depressants; I went into Boots and they were able to give me an emergency amount of medicine to last me a few days without needing a prescription.

HI IA - just to say about the anti-d's -

I forgot to take mine a little while ago and then tried to wean off when pg- I went a little crazy and felt a bit shocking, so do pop to your pharmacy tomorrow and even if you just get one for tomorrow it'll avoid any sudden drops. I'm probably going to be weaning off mine come November and I'm going to ask for the liquid - then you can reduce by 1ml per week or whatever is best.

  • I'm on anti depressants, and am currently trying to come off them. They helped me when I needed them, but they are a b**gger to get off now  I take Effexor, so different to you, I'm also on a higher dosage.

It's very tempting just to stop taking them, but I didn't want to risk the side effects. So I am having to taper them off very slowly, and I've had a few side effects even reducing by a small amount, but nothing too ghastly (headaches mainly, and my hearing was affected slightly, but it only lasted a day. Also a bit of nausea, stomach cramps, and feeling tired).

I am trying to reduce in 6 weekly stages, so it'll take me a minimum of 24 weeks to get off them completely *if* all goes to plan. I'm not putting myself under any pressure though, and if I experience any bad side effects, I'll reduce even more gradually.

Sooo what I'm trying to say, is even if you are feeling better, and like you no longer need the tablets, at least think about coming off them gradually. That way, the side effects *if* any, *should* be minimal. But I'm not a doctor, and of course speak to your GP about it :o Also, it's not a crime if you need to take them a bit longer.

My AA membership is up for renewal on the 7th Sept.. have called up today and and because I've been with them 4 yrs (last car was an M reg and regularly broke down..) they can change the cover to just the car so it's the car covered and not just me which would be handy as Ste has now passed his test.. and they can do that for £34.....

Have posted on the main board and also told Ste so we'll see what happens.... :)

Edit. Right I'm going to cancel mine but have done a new one through quidco so we'll get £25 cashback... PLUS it was cheaper online (£33.60) and it's in Ste's now but the vehicle is covered not just him. So once we get the cashback we'll have had our AA cover for £8.60.
    Bargain!
