Alternative plan. Cut Ste into little bits and *burn* him!!
That'll stop him buying toys, it's a bit mental you spending £1 on a t-shirt and worrying about it for pages when somebody has had a new PS2, a new telly, all those games, his drums/amps.... can anyone add up the running total of Ste's toys to date? Seriously when people are giving you M&S vouchers towards a cake, you do wonder start to wonder how many cakes make a PS3.
Besides with a decent manslaughter conviction you'll be able to save on rent and food costs whilst in Holloway. Although you'd probably get off on reasonable grounds.0 -

I didn't ask anyone to send us the m&s vouchers.. they did so out of the kindness of their heart. I've always been completely open in here and I haven't decieved anyone or lied so get sympathy in the hope people will send us money or vouchers. I'm not that kind of person.
I agree it doesn't look very good when I'm stressing over spending £1 on a top while Ste gets to spend £380 on a ps3. BUT it took about 3 months of continual 'How can I get a ps3, I want a ps3, when do you think we can afford a ps3, why can't I have one now?' and in the end I just gave in to save my sanity. This is by no means a dig at Steve because he can't help the way he is and before we started this whole budget/debt/savings thing he would've just gone and got it without thinking of the consequences. I'm HAPPY that he's finally happy and I don't have to listen to ps3 this and ps3 that all the time. I was getting fed up of seeing him miserable and being in bad moods with me because I've dashed his dreams once again when before I came along he would've just got his own way and been done with it.
Fact is.. he has it now and he's happy. BUT he's going to be working damn hard to pay it off ASAP so it doesn't get much interest slapped on it. We agreed on that before he even got it. He knows the score and appreciates that it hasn't been easy for me to agree and respects the fact that now he's going to have to like it or lump it that he's going to have less money to spend every week til it's paid off.
I'm sorry if I've upset or p*ssed off anyone after everyone's generosity. If people feel like I've been out of order or anything I'll stop posting so I don't tread on anyone elses toes. I'm sorry. If anyone who sent us vouchers wants the money back just let me know.Total 'Failed Business' Debt £29,043

People did that because they like you and regard you as a friend and want to see you have a nice party etc, it's a present, but it is slightly grating that the constant deprivation, making do etc and then suddenly *another* console. I didn't mean to make trouble but I think it is an issue with the budget - an unequal split of treats.0 -
IA I'm sure the people who sent you vouchers don't think you were asking for them in any way, I know how difficult it is to try to balance spending with a happy and peaceful life. Don't stop posting, you are an inspiration to many and you have done so well to reduce your debts.
I look forward to hearing more of your adventures!0 -
Hi IA
I agree, people give you things out of the kindness of their hearts. It is up to you how you spend them.
As for Steve. we have the mantra:
Do I really want it (obviously YES!)
Can I afford it (No, but I will work extra hard to pay it off and make more sacrifices)
Will I use it (I'm guessing this is obvious, how many hours has he played on it now?)
I think you have done really well so far and you have learnt and taught Steve that you can have treats, but you need to work for them. We all need treats to make life worth while.

Noooo! Don't stop posting - I understand why that post has made you stop in your tracks, and I understand why the poster put it on your thread, it looks like a huge discrepancy, £1 to £380. But its attitudes and roles, frankly. At the moment, you're the homebod, working things out to the last penny, literally; I know you must have ambitions way beyond the home, but at the moment thats where you are. Ste is out there, as he always has been, and he's a bloke, and blokes often want *things* - I know its sex role stereotyping, believe me, I'm not particularly happy about it, but its true.
He's had a huge attitude change since the start of all this, and thats enough - it means he *knows* what's right, and he's actually left the final decision up to you, cos he keeps asking you. Thats good enough.
Plus, you know, your marital decisions are nobody else's business - somebody doesn't like them, thats their prerogative, of course it is, but all the advice on here is not to deprive yourself, because that way lies spending mania. He works at hmv, doesn't he? In other words, he's right in the thick of the consumerist society, to put it bluntly. How could he *not* be thinking, ooh I want that, I want this, especially when it chimes in with the musical creativity (you both have) as in the case of the drums.
This is fairly disjointed, but I wanted to get a response up on your thread asap. :grouphug:2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
