Hi, new to this.
I recently received a "parking charge notice" from UKCPS. The fine of £60 rising to £100 is outrageous! I've read on here that this company is basically a scam and the notice is not enforceable... Is this true? Can anyone suggest my next steps? Should I just ignore it?
I was given the ticket despite not strictly parking in the car park. I was parked between the car park and the road, basically where the pavement would be, so I'm a little pee'd off.
Many thanks.

Your first step is to read the Newbies Sticky carefully - this will explain your situation and the steps needed to see them off.

if you dont see them off early, expect 6 years of misery and letters and bear in mind they take up to 1000 people to court annually , only then will you know if it can be enforced or not , when the judge decides
or play the game and beat them off early with an appeal, then popla if they dont throw in the towel0 -
@OP - seriously take note of the foregoing advice. Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .
I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

I hope you haven't been reading old threads - I can't believe how many people read old threads about ignoring these.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Thanks for the replies guys. In fairness I only read the old threads because google took me to them!
I've given the sticky a good going over (three or four times, it's a beast)!
So to be clear, I wait for a NTK that should arrive between 29 & 56 days. I then appeal this and get a POPLA code?
Thanks0 -

Yes, assuming this is England or Wales and not a hire/lease car. The first appeal will be rejected but that's how you get the POPLA code to win the second appeal.I married my cousin. I had to...I don't have a sister.

Yes, in E & W and not a company/hire car.
Top work, i'll hang on and wait for a NTK. I'll also try and get a photo of the parking sign, when i'm next in the area I got it.0 -
Yes we know but (for example) if you searched Google for 'who is the Prime Minister' and found a thread telling you it was Maggie Thatcher you wouldn't read it/believe it would you? If you Googled the Premier League Tables and found Man Utd had won every match (in Fergie time of course) and were 10 points clear you wouldn't think 'Great - that must be current, I won't look further'! Forums are great (better than those silly examples) because the date is there for all to see on every post, too.franko2709 wrote: »Thanks for the replies guys. Sorry to joke about it but what I mean is, on Google, dates of results are key - Google has everything ever put on it and forums are among the worst for showing old threads when you Google. It can't be helped, is no-one's fault but old forum threads should never be read & believed as still being the case. The fact you find a relevant forum is the important thing - should have just hopped to the first page to read the current threads straight away. Thank you for that detailed and most illuminating advice. I will take every word on aboard and adjust my Google searching technique for future searches.
Now that I have found your thread, which is excellent by the way, I can crack on. As someone who had no previous idea that these private firms existed, I'm having to do a fair bit of learning pretty quickly.
A part of me is tempted to use that website that offers to win your case for £16 or pay the fine themselves... But I shall stay strong and follow your advice!0 -
This is a long shot... But, does anyone know who owns the first car park on the left that is patrolled by UKCPS? I got a PCN there last week but live an hour away so am trying to find out before I head back in another week, hence saving myself a two hour trip!
Or if anyone has any suggestions on how I find out... Maybe ring Leeds council?
Cheers.0
