To get an average of 70mpg you will have to limit yourself to journeys with no traffic.
If its busy peak commuting time you will need to leave the car at home.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
at least 55 mpg real life!
any close to 70mpg would be ideal!
Find an old diesel, like the 1.4 in a citroen ax and you moght get close to 70, but tbh you're being unrealistic to expect 70mpg day to day on an old car which must be cheap insurance (rules out a lot of turbo diesels) and cost under £2k.0 -

My car will do close to 70mpg. And on a trip to the seaside and back averaged 57mpg fully loaded up.
BUT... Short winter journeys and having the engine running whilst clearing snow/ice off the car it averaged less than 30mpg.
Not average over a single journey but average over a full tank of fuel and worked out properly not using the less accurate onboard trip.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

For 2 grand? Cheap to insure? Under 100K?
Any other unrealistic expectations? If the classifieds were full of cars like that we'd all be driving them.
I LOL'd.
Buy a bicycle.
Seriously though, if you want the moon on a stick, you're out of luck. You might hit 70mpg on one journey, but unless all your travelling is done with the engine warmed up, on a motorway, at a constant 50mph, at night with no traffic, you ain't gonna get that average MPG.0 -
Have a look at vw polo's - great wee reliable car but to get one for under £2k you will probably be looking at around 10 years old.
Some examples

I have a 1.4 polo TDI and get between 55 and 65 mpgWeight loss challenge, lose 15lb in 6 weeks before Christmas.0 -
Skoda Fabia 1.4 Tdi's will approach your MPg, but will be top end of your budget and high milage already.
You want good Mpg, low milage, and cheap? Pick which is most important to you.
My advice would be to go for a ford focus or fiesta, 1.4 or 1.6 petrol. What you lose in Mpg you make back in low cost repairs, parts availability and running costs.0 -
can you find me a car please with the biggest possible mpg for no more than 2k?
I am looking for smaller cars, not big sedans
thanks!
VW Golf Mk4 TDI.
Mine cost £700, 12 years old, 1 owner. Now has 244,000 miles on it and still running fine.
MPG is 50, can get 60 mpg on a run. I think you'll be pushed to find a more economical car for the money. Not gonna happen on a 2k car. Get a 2k diesel suitable for veggie and get some wvo for dead cheap motoring then worry not about the milage.
As above, 50mpg is achievable with a Golf TDI for normal driving. 70 maybe at a push on a long run with very light right footRemember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0
