used car with more than 100k miles?
hello!
with my limited budget (1-2k) for a used car, I only see deals with cars of more than 120,000 miles!
Aren't these cars extremely used? How many miles can I expect to run more without a problem?
I would consider a car with max 80,000 miles, but 120,000 miles or more isn't just too much?
Any experience/advise?
Thanks!

Have you looked on Gumtree?
Theres plent of cars on there with about 60k on, some less.
I've never had a problem with Gumtree in case you're worried about using them. Me and OH both sold our old cars on there and found our new ones there too.0 -
Petrol or diesel? Some Diesal engines will last for miles - my husbands 12 year old VW has around 250,000 miles on it.
Research the car you are looking at, some makes are fine with high miles some aren't.Weight loss challenge, lose 15lb in 6 weeks before Christmas.0 -
Can you be more specific about the vehicles eg make, model, age and fuel, do they all have a complete service history?0

What cars are you looking at?
120k can be just run in on some cars. If its a newish car, eg under 5 years then I imagine most will be motorway miles, so probably less wear on the gearbox, clutch, suspension etc, engine would have spent most of its life at low-mid range rpm. 120k on a 15+ year old car will need to be checked far more thoroughly as more likely shorter trips, more worn engine, and especially for rust on sills, crossmember etc
Only way to know is to go and look at it, if the car looks badly looked after, budget mismatched tyres and no receipts for oil changes, then run.
Older diesels and bigger petrol engines will be capable of 500k+ if looked after.0 -
You can buy a car with less than 100,000 on the clock for £1k.
My mum got hers with 80,000 for about £600.
Im hoping to get about £1000 for my 56 plate corsa - which has 59,000 on the clock.
It all depends on what you want, if you want a 4x4 then there has to be some give and take somewhere and mileage is going to be one of the things that is probably high.I am a Mortgage AdviserYou should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. can you find me a car please with the biggest possible mpg for no more than 2k?
I am looking for smaller cars, not big sedans
thanks!0 -
Don't worry too much about your car run so much.
I'm a Taxi Driver, so drive enough. Last year I bought a 6 years old Ford Mondeo 1.8 Diesel with 181K on the clock for 2.2K, and spent on another 800 in the first month to make sure everything is fine. Now it shows 216K, and I haven't spent anything just services, tyres, bulbs and wipers - oh and a battery.
So my advice is to research online your chosen car which engine the most reliable, don't get put off the millage the car run so far, spend some money on your car and this way you can be sure what is under you.0 -

I ewould expect cars of that age and size all to be in the sub 2k bracket across virtually all marques.0 -
