Unfortunately I think you are correct in saying you aren't entitled to anything as you forefeited your ticket, the Thomson flight did eventually go ahead.

However, the EU rules state after 5 hours you are entitled to a full refund of your ticket if you choose not to fly, within 7 days. Now, I don't know if this has to be sorted at the time at the airport, or whether it can be done in retrospect, but something to go at Thomson with. probably is no-where near your €800, but might at least get something back.

Also the EU rules state you are entitled to overnight accomodation if the delay is overnight. Now, assuming your delay lasted 30 hours that must have included overnight, and it seems Thomson didn't provide that. Again, something to go at them with.

Good luck, dealing with travel companies is horrible!

They gave us a claim form at the airport but it says that if you only booked a flight that you have to make your claim via the call centre.
I have only managed to get through once and was passed from department to department in the end the girl said she couldn't deal with it and to phone back today.
Still trying to get connected and my head is spinning from the rubbish music they play on hold.
I did get through to the luggage department though HOORAH !!!!
    They cant find my bags.
Off to buy some replacement prezzies for ds so that i can get a bit of peace from the constant "when are my toys getting home ?"

Think next year we might try a walking holiday!!!!!

    oh the joys !

i have just enquired again about my luggage.
I very politely explained my situation to the girl on the other end of the phone, long delay had to get home flew different airline to manchester bags still on palma flight blah blah blah.
I was told that i should of reported them missing as soon as i arrived at glasgow airport from palma.
tried to explain that i didnt get on the palma to glasgow flight and she told me i had to prove that before she could do anything!!!!

the whole thing is now turning into something out of a comedy sketch.

so anyone know who i claim for luggage with is it the airline or my travel insurance ????

sorry to keep asking these things but nothing like this has ever happened to me before.
thanks again to all who have advised me so far you are all brill:heart2: :A :heart2:

I really feel for you, Its absolutely ridiculous.

Can you go back to the travel agent where you purchased the holiday and sit there until you get sense?

So assuming your flight did eventually get in - your cases would be at the airport somewhere as they would have unloaded them - I would keep ringing the airport as well.

Definately make a claim - Keeping you waiting 30 hours with young children is no joke, keep a log of names and everyone you speak too an what they say.
Also make a customer service complaint. Not that that seems to make a difference in the travel insustry.

I really hope you get your cases back and your ds gets his pressies back.
    Total 2019: £3972 - Best win this year £3000
    2018 total £4062/2017 total £2260/ 2016 total £2025/ 2015 total £3809.

Have you tried calling Glasgow airport and asking if your cases are there? The flight must have eventually operated in some shape or form and it sounds like such a mess I wouldn't be suprised if your cases didnt get taken off the flight! Sounds like a terrible experience, make sure you press for your rights under the EU regs & you can claim off your travel insurance for something im sure!

yep ! called them this morning and they were brilliant. couldn't find them but at least they tried to be helpful.

have just heard about a plane load of folk delayed 32 hours on their way out of glasgow to malaga so i have decided to stop feeling sorry for my self coz at least our delay was the end of the holiday and not the begining.

100's of folk on 2 flights delayed for that amount of time no wonder you cant get through to customer services!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
think i can get about 25 quid each for the delay from the travel insurance and the cost of my tickets for the glasgow flight so we are only going to be
out of pocket about £150 much better than when i thought i couldn't get anything back.

Just reading your thread, and a thought occurred to me.......

When there is a 'no show' passenger on a flight (who had already booked in, and therefore has checked in luggage as well), does the airline remove that baggage from the hold before the flight eventually takes off (so your luggage may never have even left Palma) ....... seen it on 'Airline' with Easyjet and just wondered if that might be the case?

Hope the situation is sorted soon. You have my sympathy for your experience.....we suffered an 11 hour delay with Thomson this time last year and was confined to the airside terminal at Birmingham, and it was scorching hot outside , so can only imagine your anger/frustration/desparation.

    Re: Bags

Your bags would have been removed from the flight. When passengers "no show" their bags are removed. Airlines are not permitted to carry bags without the passengers.

The only way they can do this is send them as cargo on a later flight. These bags called "rush" bags go through far more stringent security checks than standard baggage.

The rush bag system is primarily used when bags don't make it to a flight, so they are sent on the next one. Your bags would have been removed at Palma and are probably still sat there. The handling agents in Palma would probably be expecting you to collect them (as far as they are concerned you didn't fly, they don't know you flew to Manchester). The agents won't know to send them on. However it is Thomson's job to help you recover these, they should contact their handling agents in Palma and get them to send the bags on a Glasgow flight.

    Hope this helps
