You chose to save a £100 each and now begrudge paying £20 each.

Not sure why you feel "ripped off" in any way.

I'd be thinking along these lines too OP - you saved £100 per person by not taking the Thomson flights, so paying £10 each for allocated seats together with Jet2 still makes you £90 each up on the deal.

In your situation, I'd pay the tenner each.

Pollycat- you don't pay anything with Thomson to sit together (as long as it's not extra legroom)
    Really?

According to Thomson website it says:
If you pay extra to reserve seats together, you’ll get to choose your seat numbers for free on most Thomson Airways flights. Bear in mind, if you’re on an A la Carte holiday, you won’t need to pay any extra to reserve seats as long as you’ve booked at least 14 days before you travel.
So it certainly sounds like you have to pay to sit together - unless you've booked an a la Carte holiday.

Was looking at their site this morning for a 10hr flight and they were charging extra to be able to reserve your seats in advance.

I can get a block of 3 of I pay £10 each (both ways), so they are obviously still available

As others have said, they will be available as they intentionally keep blocks free to be able to upsell people to the pre-reserved seats. If they just dotted people around so that no blocks were free what would be the point of paying extra when you still cant sit together?

I dont know if they are intentionally breaking up groups to try and encourage people to buy the service, the last few times I bought tickets without pre-reservation included I didnt actually get told the seats until I was able to do the check in online so cannot say if they just give the prereservers their choice of seats and then only allocate the rest of us once those have made their selections.

Even flying BA and such you have to have status or buy a higher ticket to get to select your seats before check in. I know when I've bought late flights then 3-4 days before the flight the system would generally show the flight less than 50% full which would suggest everyone else is allocated seats only at check in as the planes are invariably nearly full on the day.

Crikey what a bunch of miserable grumpy replies to the OP for merely pointing out something out others might not be aware of. Then again …this is MSE forums

I don't doubt that it may well be helpful to some people to discover that Jet2 charge for seating together.

However the misleading and incorrect title does not help endear the OP to other posters.

The same story could have been posted as "Saved £80 per person by booking with Jet2"

That would have been a nice moneysaving tip. ;)

I think when posters use emotive words/phrases such as 'ripped-off', 'absolutely furious' and 'completely helpless' they tend not to get the sympathy or advice they are looking for.

Both I and another poster think that Thomson do charge for seats together so I'm interested to know how much they do charge so we can assess just how much the OP has been 'ripped-off' by in comparison to what she would have to pay to Jet2.

Regardless of the reason why you feel that your party needs to sit together, if it's something that the airline charge for you either pay or don't sit together.

It may be worth the OP understanding what a lot of airlines consider 'seats together' before paying out any money.

    According to Thomson:
*Seats together may be across an aisle or behind each other. A similar position means the same type of seat (window, aisle etc) as your original selected seats.

Looking at their site its £19 per adult for the canaries or £30 per adult for the caribbean

The OP didnt say where they are going to know if they were ripped off by £1 or saved themselves £10

Jet 2 have free phone lines- call one of them.

I would 100% prefer to be on Jet2 than Thomson. Clean planes- large comfy seats- less of a 'booze cruise' atmosphere.

Have you ever flown with Jet 2? They are by far the best low cost carrier in my experience. Great for being on time as well.

  • Probably too late for you now if you have already completed check in but the thing to do is keep coming back out and trying again and they offer different combinations of seats each time. Just keep doing this until happy with what they offer. Works for us everytime.

    Have a nice holiday
