Thomson holiday Jet 2 flights-being ripped off

Options
Just to make everyone aware of this- I booked a holiday for my husband and myself and my mother. Booked through Thomsons months ago. Right after I booked I realisedI hadn't been offered meals- then I realised it was Jet 2 flights! I got in touch with Thomson immediately- yes they could change us to Thomson flights- at a cost of £100 each!! Obviously we didn't change and we thought we would be ok with Jet2.
Check-in opened today and I went on to get checked in and to book our seats together. Jet 2 want £10 each from us to reserve our seat! (not extra leg room- just normal seats) The seats they have given is have us separated, despite there being at least a dozen blocks of 3 seats together on that flight still available!! I have tried calling them- on the phone for over 21 minutes at 10p per minute with no answer from them. I am absolutely furious and I feel completely helpless

if its a short flight I'm never bothered if we sit together anyway , 3 - 4 hours max to most popular destinations

why is it so important to sit together ??

how do you know that the seats together are not blocked out for passengers who have paid the extra to sit together but not yet chosen seats ?

You will be OK - you got what you agreed to and paid for when you booked the holiday. If the 'extras' you want were essential then the time to check these was when booking.

Jet2 are always likely to keep blocks of seats free to encourage people to pay extra to sit together so fairly likely that your £2.10 phone call is wasted as they'll just offer you the £10 each to choose your seats.

Meals easily added via the 'manage my booking' part of the website

5 hours 20 minutes to our destination- my mother doesn't travel well which is why we are going with her. I can get a block of 3 of I pay £10 each (both ways), so they are obviously still available, but since we have paid £3000 for a weeks holiday I grudge being ripped off like this when they can obviously do it at no extra costs to themselves.

I wouldn't call seating a family together an 'extra' but perhaps I have a different view than you.

How much would you have had to pay with Thomson?

its all part of their new pricing models , pay extra for allocated seating together, more legroom , meals on some shorter flights , extra baggage allowance , transers to the resort etc

it drives down the "headline" price when you start to book , similar to the budget airlines

Pollycat- you don't pay anything with Thomson to sit together (as long as it's not extra legroom)

Browntoa- I was posting this so other don't get caught out as I have. You clearly know more about this than most.

Furious and helpless, really? If you need food in the five hours you'll be flying, pack some sandwiches. If you have to sit together arrive early at the airport and ask politely (minus the dramatics), or pay.

Hope you're feeling less helpless now!

I'm sorry I ever mentioned it. I remember this used to be a friendly site.

I guess the airline is deliberately splitting groups in a bid to try to get them to pay for sitting together. I must admit I hate paying fees for this, after all why should it cost extra?

I think in this case you might have to though, given that you know you have been allocated separate seats. It's just another way of getting money out of people unfortunately, although I can totally understand your frustration!

You chose to save a £100 each and now begrudge paying £20 each.

Not sure why you feel "ripped off" in any way.
