EDIT - I will add the conclusion of the report, in full -

Specialist medical practice in the NHS has been heavily dependent on doctors who have trained abroad, particularly in specialties where posts have been hard to fill. By contrast, UK trained doctors from ethnic minorities are not over-represented in the less popular specialties. Ethnic minorities are well represented in UK medical school intakes; and white men, but not white women, are now substantially under-represented.

Isn't this a different issue which comes from fewer UK pupils studying science and maths subjects? There are a number of initiatives underway to address this.

Some of it is choice - more attraction in other sectors such as law or financial services. Some of it might be socio-economic with the introduction of fees, more so when it's long courses being considered. Universities actively target overseas students because they bring more revenue.

Not so sure this result comes from racial discrimination.

I have noticed that the majority of dentists now seem to be of Asian or Chinese heritage.

    Can you substantiate that?
  • Cazziebo... I am sure this is not from racial discrimination at all! The same as the lack of minories in the creative sector is not a direct result of discrimination. My point is, would it be fair to exclude any race to even it out a bit? Of course not. It seems to me to be the same problem, just in a different sector.

Purely annecdotal from when I had to find a new dentist a couple of years ago. This was in South London so may not be representative.

I feel you aren't really looking for advice, just a debate, and this should go to discussion time.

To be truly honnest I would be really interested to hear some answer to my second question in OP.

This sounds to me like making skewed conclusions based upon statistics, to suit your own ends

So could it be that BAE people not attracted to creative industry for the same reasons?

Something like 95% of rap artists are non white. Should it be Ok to set up a recording company with an overt "no blacks" policy?

And 95 percent of country singers are white ......so what is your point ?

The recording industry doesn't deal exclusively in rap music.

Let me get this right. In a country where black people are systematically discriminated against (education, employment, academia, housing) a company discriminates against white people and white people get upset? Hang on, seems a bit rich to me. I'd be happy to see this company be asked to end its policy once we've eradicated all discrimination against black people. I think that's fair. As in equal. As in balanced.

Oh, and by the way the top artists in the 1estra black music list are all white. I think the music industry could do with a bit of reflection.
