Compers Footy Chat 2014/2015

I thought I'd kick off a 'Compers Footy Chat 2014/2015' seeing as the one that was done during the World Cup went down so well.

There's plenty of Fantasy Football comps about so even if you are not a footy fan feel free to join in if you need any tips and advice as us MSE footy fans are a good bunch.

I'll even welcome Man United fans :rotfl:

Anyway, I'll start it off - nice to see normal service resumed with wins for City, Liverpool and Arsenal (reckon Chelsea will win tomorrow too) and Man United losing at home to a team they really wouldn't have under Fergies reign.

That top 4 is already gonna look familiar by Monday night.

Not the easiest of games for City today but a couple of sublime passes, and you won't see many better than Dzeko's pass to set up the first goal (although knowing him it was probably an attempt on goal) and the way Sergio got up to hit the second was superb. Deserved the win but Toon gave us a game. Just wait till we click into gear.

Always up for a footie chat :footie:, nice thread MB:T

I hope there's a bit of a shake up at the top of the Prem this season, and the 'big four' face a few challenges on the way. I'd like to see Man U make it a bit more of a battle this season too, although won't be the same for me since Giggsy's retirement - despite his 'naughty' s*e*x*capades  I truly admired his skills and it will be interesting to see how his potential management career progresses.

The first shock manager exit this season? It's barely started, but who foresaw Pulis' departure from Crystal Palace? I wonder what other managerial 'casualties' we'll see this season?

I'm still getting over the disappointment of Derby's failure to reach the heady heights of the Prem - Bobby Zamora, why I oughta

hoping this is our season instead - don't disappoint me Derby!! :D

Well I'm more than happy to join in, particularly since my beloved Swansea City humbled Man Utd on the weekend!

We didn't pick up any points against the top 6 sides last season, so to start off this year's campaign with 3 points at Old Trafford is already a huge boost.

A lot of people tend to look at Swans and think "Laudrup & Michu have gone, they don't stand a chance". When in fact it was Laudrup dragging us down & Michu hasn't actually played for us properly since Nov/Dec last year.

Ash Williams signing a new contract was brilliant for us, and the return of the 'Iceman' Gylfi Sigurdsson is very exciting. It's already proven that rebuffing Villa's interest and playing Ki in a role he's comfortable in has been a good decision. A bit disappointing that we've lost Ben Davies & Michel Vorm to Tottenham, particularly as it's left us a little bare in the full back dept. Gomis is another great signing, even more so as he was free. Finally, there's Montero. One of the fastest players I have ever seen & can't wait to see him play a bit more.

For me, I'll be happy with a 9th-11th finish, a strong cup run and managing to keep Bony at least until next May.

As a long standing West Ham supporter I am looking forward to the day when we start playing attractive attacking football again - it has been a long long time since the Hammers were good to watch! It's not going to happen while Sam Allardyce is in charge that's for sure. I'll be happy with 17th!
    As for the rest...my predictions:

1st - Man City - settled team who know how to win it
2nd - Chelsea - still boring. Won't let many goals in but will draw too many matches
    3rd - Arsenal - great to watch...until February
4th - Liverpool - most exciting attacking team at the moment but have to cope with Champions League this season

5th - Everton - excellent manager, good team again
6th - Man Utd - their era is over, won't attract the top players any more

surprise team of the year will be Southampton despite the exodus!

Good start to the season for Edinburgh's finest.
Seeing off The Rangers and Hibs (The proclaimers favourite team and their song Sunshine on Leith is all about Hibs. Well listen here ya pair of muppets, no sunshine down Leith way today or any other day you play us!) puts us in a strong early position.
Downside to these hard fought victories is a card count of 11 yellows, 1 red and our first choice keeper with a fractured cheek bone. Ah! Can't beat the blood and guts of the Scottish game. :)
