HSBC - Don't expect to be able to get your cash

This is a warning for anyone out there which banks with HSBC. OH tried to withdraw cash using joint account debit card last night and got message 'service not available'. Tried to do the same with my card and same happened.
Rang HSBC they say this cash machine does not pay out between 10pm and 7am. So this is a warning that if you are with HSBC you may not be able to get your money. Convenient for the bank isn't it.It is the only HSBC cash machine in that part of town.
This isn't about an update or a fault, I did not misunderstand. HSBC explained that this, and other cash machines of theirs do not dispense between certain hours overnight.
Of course it is convenient for the bank if they get to hold on to MY money.
Really?
I don't know of any cash machines that are out of service (and not for maintenance, fault, etc) for that period of time.
The only HSBC cash machines I know of where you can't get your cash for such periods are those where you can't even get to the cash machine (such as in shopping malls, or even the bank's own lobby)
I remember the time when you could only access your cash between 9.30am and 3.30pm Monday to Friday, and if you went about 12 noon, you'd still probably be there queueing up past 1pm.
So I do feel your pain :cool:0 -
So there are at least 81 people who thought they would join this forum and call themselves mummy but couldnt so added a number?

Dont rock the boat ,baby0 -
I could not use another cash machine as they all charge, neither me nor my partner intend to pay to access our own money.
I'm starting to think everyone here works for HSBC or something. I know what I was told on the phone and that you can't use cash machines between certain hours. I don't think that is something I would have misunderstood.0 -

Was wondering when this would appear. :rotfl:
If you really didn't misunderstand, it's definitely not ALL HSBC cash machines.
In fact, I used a HSBC cash machine at the weekend. About 2.30am Sunday morning, when I needed money to get home from the pub0 -
Where did I saw it was all HSBC machines? It is definitely some of them though.
Well you didn't specify that it was only 'some' in the below 2 posts, and the way you worded it made it seem like you meant all.I know what I was told on the phone and that you can't use cash machines between certain hours.HSBC explained that this, and other cash machines of theirs do not dispense between certain hours overnight.
Which other ones have you had trouble with then if it's more than 1 but not all? I've never had issues with any HSBC cash machines not giving money because of the time of day.
It can't be a huge number (if it's any at all) as if there were a large amount not dispensing money for such a large portion of the day (over a third with the hours you give), I imagine it would have been mentioned by other people quite often.0 -

How very strange.
I'm have a HSBC account.
I can use virtually any other cash machine with no charge. All the machines outside Tesco, Asda, Sainsburys, Morrisons, the Post Office.. no charge. Natwest, Barclays, RBS, Lloyds, all the building societies.. no charge. At all the major chain petrol stations.. no charge.
I do not work for HSBC. Nor, am I 'a loon'.0 -

So there are no other bank owned machines in your area? Only HSBC ones? - most bank owned machines will NOT charge. Aka. I pulled money out of a Halifax ATM today from a Nationwide account. Or is your account restricted in some way by HSBC and they are the ones charging you for using other machines?
We don't all work for HSBC and the claimed policy is a little weird. That is why we are saying you were told wrong by the employee or have misunderstood somehow.
The only way I can see this would be the case is if it was a high crime area and they have had several muggings of people after they have gone to the cash machine late at night and have restricted them because of that.0
