How does that make them money?

I'm guessing its because for every minute the banks can hold on to your money makes them £billions in interest.
    Surely everyone knows that? :rotfl:

Rang HSBC they say this cash machine does not pay out between 10pm and 7am. So this is a warning that if you are with HSBC you may not be able to get your money.
    Thanks for the warning Mummy81.

It would be even more useful if you were to tell us where the problem cash machine actually is.

Sound like it is a machine in a particular place where there have been previous overnight problems.

I can't see that not having the use of a cash point in the middle of the night is going to make HSBC billions of interest tbh!

I had a message when i logged into my Halifax account yesterday saying early hours of (date) I wouldnt be able to withdraw money from a cashpoint.

I didnt read much into it. Not something i needed to do anyway.

They need to update systems at some point in time. Early hours makes sense to me.

So did I. I wouldn't mind betting maybe HSBC did the same as well. The op probably phoned up, was told this but has miss-understood and taken it as they never work during those hours.

I couldn't transfer money between my accounts using my app this morning - caused me a bother hunting around for my cash stashes to do my lunches for work shop.

I think it was a scheduled update to Natwest services, but would have been nice to have a warning...

I saw a warning regarding the app on the online banking but didn't pay attention as I don't use the app.

  • Use a different cash machine?

It is the only HSBC cash machine in that part of town.

This isn't about an update or a fault, I did not misunderstand. HSBC explained that this, and other cash machines of theirs do not dispense between certain hours overnight.

Of course it is convenient for the bank if they get to hold on to MY money.

Then use a different banks machine. I have a HSBC account and never use a HSBC machine.

Still fail to see what benefit it is to HSBC to keep hold of a couple of hundred quid for a few hours?
