  • Managing your finance isn't easy! I'd say start with simple steps:

    1. Write everything down to see where you spend the most, and little expenses you can cut out without too much sacrifice.
    2. Turn off everything when you don't need it (fridge when you go on vacation, lights when you leave the room, water when you brush your teeth, heat when you can wear a cozy sweater...)
    3. Unplug things when you go to work, especially appliances, so they don't suck all the energy out.
    4. See if you can switch to cheaper service providers (TV, Internet, Insurance...)
    5. Take REALLY good care of your car to improve its gas mileage and durability.
    6. Meal plan.
    7. Look for discounts and coupons on groceries.

Considering that Housing, Food and Transportation are the 3 biggest expense categories for average people, make sure to start saving there!
  • You seem to be very positive today compared to when you started the post so that's a good thing!

Shepherds pie sounds duelist so will need to let us know how it turns out. I just bought a slow cooker today and making chicken and mushroom so hoping that turns out ok!

  • Back again! Thank you for all the tips.

The shepherds pie was lovely and with enough left over for tomorrow. I've never added lentils to mince before, but I will definitely be doing it again. I would guess that it almost doubled the quantity of the mince.

I've just managed to spend £7.50 without leaving the sofa. We're going to see the new Planet of the Apes film on Thursday. I haven't been to the cinema for ages :D

I'm addicted to checking my Eb*y store - no sales yet today

I am feeling positive today even though it feels like a huge obstacle. I hope everyone else had a good day today

  • Apparently the Planet of the Apes film is incredible! I can't remember the last time we went to the cinema (more down to lack of babysitters than due to being frugal!)- enjoy! :j

  • I'm on the 6th day of my holidays already - why do they go so fast?

I'm home alone today, BF and his son have gone fishing and I had to stay at home for the man from BT to come and upgrade our broadband to fibre optic. He's just phoned and said he can't do it because there's a fault on our line that can't be fixed till next week! I've still got very slow broadband and now no phone line

Not much to report on the moneysaving really. I have four days to go to payday and about £50 in the Bank. I've had a couple of Eb*y sales and would really love to end the month with £100 in the bank - or as close as I can get to it anyway.

I've done a load of ironing this morning and have about 20 items to be photographed and listed all I have to do is get motivated. I'm really not in the mood this afternoon. I'm going to try and book a slot for home delivery on Saturday with Mr A or Mr T which means I can avoid the supermarket crush on Saturday.

    Things left to do today:-

    1. Photograph and list at least 20 items.
    2. Cook dinner for 5.
    3. Do an online shop.
    4. Check online banking.

    Back later x

  • I hope everyone's having a great bank holiday!

I've been cleaning like a mad thing today. I've changed the beds, cleaned the bathroom, hoovered, polished, wiped down the skirting boards and done two loads of washing. I have to admit, I'm a bit of a clean freak and I have a thing about germs, so when the house is clean - I'm happy :D
    .
I haven't spent anything at all since we went to the cinema on Friday. The film was brill, I really enjoyed it.

Eb*y sales have been very slow this weekend, Bank Holidays are usually very good for me but I've only had one sale this weekend and that was today.

I forgot, I spent £40 on petrol, so I won't be ending the month with £100 in the bank, but at least I'll be starting the next month will a full tank of fuel :T

I've got to go and pick up my mum in a bit. I'm cooking tonight - we have chicken, green beans and I'm going to have a go at making fondant potatoes. I'll let you know how it goes.

  • Really enjoyed reading your thread, it's given me lots of inspiration. Am feeling really low about money today and we never seem to have any left at the end of the month but at least the bills are paid. The chicken sounds lovely. X
  • The chicken was lovely but I don't think the potatoes turned out right - they were very tasty but just like roasties really. I think I need to cook them in a smaller pot next time.

Its the last day of my holidays tomorrow, they've gone so quickly and I haven't really done anything other than clean a lot and it sounds really sad but I like cleaning :o and I love the smell of bleach :o

I'm a bit fed up with my brother to be honest. He hasn't made the effort to come and see mum this weekend at all, which means its all falling on me again. He's coming up this way, but with a group of friends to go walking, so "won't have time" to go and see her.

One more day till payday - I'll be rich for about a week then its all gone again. My aim for next year is to have more money left than month!

I've had one more sale this evening which makes me better off by a grand total of £15 tonight than I was this morning which is a good start :D

    Things to do tomorrow:-

    1. Have a mini lie-in.
    2. Go to my mum's and do some cleaning for her.
    3. Make sure work clothes are ironed.
    4. Really need to do some weeding but REALLY don't like doing it so there's a chance this won't get done tomorrow :o
    5. Windows need cleaning if its dry.
    6. Cook trout for dinner (don't really like fish but BF loves it and he caught it so its a free meal ).
    7. Pack up any items that need to be posted on Tuesday.
    8. Check online banking.

I'll probably have nightmares tonight. I've just watched two episodes of the Walking Dead. If the world's population turned into zombies, I don't think I'd last very long - I'd definitely end up as someone's dinner straight away :D

  • Just wanted to say hi xx

I lost my Dad, 8 years ago next month. hardest thing ever by far.
I live with Mum, sometimes is it great, sometimes it is awful, but like you say I am lucky to have this time.

Anyhow big hugs and loads of luck with the money saving XX
    Nevertheless she persisted.
