My mum it was a Sunday roast. 1pm on the dot.
It was priceless, my dad said "who told you that?" and DD2 said "my dad", and my dad said "well I don't like your dad". :eek: :rotfl:0 -

Probably because of their upbringing? I don't know if we have anyone here who fits that bill? But it's always considerate to give a warning just in case.
You are rational in your thinking, that's why you don't see that side of things. It's very much a social issue and being aware of what I like to call 'generational thinking'.....the way different generations react to certain subjects, words.....etc.
There's nothing wrong with your way of thinking. You wouldn't be you if you didn't think that way. I guess that it's an awareness that whilst you think something isn't offensive (and you wouldn't post it if you did) you are aware that others can and do think differently and you don't wish to offend them. Then you leave it up to the individual (who knows what they find offensive) whether they watch or not
[1] I'm shutting up now because I'm doing posts as long as yours :eek::rotfl:
[1] Yes, you are!:rotfl::cool::rotfl:
[2] It just comes as a complete bizarreness to imagine that anyone could find those specific words I'd mentioned offensive. Who on earth? To my mind, they'd have to be over 90 or something:eek:. And, if that's ageism on my part, then that too may be offensive - although I suspect I'm likely to be safe here as "people of older generations" tend (note I did not say that everyone did, and therefore did not stereotype a whole generation, merely a tendency) to view things such as age discrimination to be more acceptable yet complain about words that relate to sex or body parts. I suspect the younger generations tend to think ageism is more unacceptable.
I'm sure it is down to "their" upbringing (in reference to "the people, probably in the older generation", although setting up a "them" and "us" type thing that I'd rather have avoided).
It's definitely down to "upbringing" with me, for example when certain things, in certain places, cause me offence. It's the words that were created as worse in my childhood that I have problems with (in certain specific circumstances). It's not so much, with me, that I "consider" them to be offensive, i.e. it's not a rational thinking process and a consideration, merely the physical effect or the discomfort that I feel, or may feel, totally irrationally in one sense (as emotion is irrational) although, in another sense, for "rational" reasons, namely that these were made that way for me - by my parents and teachers - in my childhood. Blame my parents and teachers, that's it!:D:rotfl::rotfl: They caused me immeasurable harm.:( It's social conditioning - we're all socially conditioned - and, usually the things that are set at your development stage, i.e. childhood, are the things that continue to affect you in a particular way so many many years later.
The OP of course said it was "funny". It was still "funny", or capable of fun, for me, despite not being rude. I guess, assuming that there is "rudeness" there, it's the "rudeness" that makes it funny. Funny (peculiar) how things that are funny (ha ha) to some - or even many? - are the very same things, often, that are offensive to others. The two have a degree of overlap. But - certainly a bizarre thought to me - who on earth would have a severe physical reaction and aversion to hearing that particular five-letter plural word? I can't imagine anyone at all, ever, having a physical reaction to that word, in other words actual offence (as opposed to merely considering something "offensive" yet not actually being offended by it on every use or even on that use in that song). That anyone could have a physical reaction to that one is beyond my comprehension. That is not to say that it is impossible though - I just find the whole notion that anyone could be, from that specific word, incredible and bizarre.
If they did have a physical reaction, then how would the thought of the very same thing, even from me just saying "five-letter plural word", not cause the same thing? Surely if the word is unbearable and physically reactive, then any thought whatsoever of it in the mind would be also disturbing? If it is not, then grow up and cope with it! Says this person who, himself, does not cope or deal very well with similar things sometimes:o:o.0 -
