New mobile phone battery doesn't work !

Hi Guys. I've just bought a new battery for my phone, Samsung GT-S6102 and when I install it nothing happens at first then I get a little picture of a blue triangle with a little battery inside with a strike through the battery. The phone was bought in Spain. Do you think the battery is faulted or is it that my phone isn't compatible with the battery because it was bought abroad. Thanks for any help.

Are the connections clean, free of protective tape??

Yeah, did buy from Ebay, but it does look genuine, thanks.

If it's the right size and capacity, then being bought in Spain makes no difference.
They're not necessarily pre-charged, do follow the advice in post 4

Thanks macman. I was thinking that maybe the voltage in the charger could affect it in some way.

What's the original battery doing, or is that dead too? Could be the contacts on the charger connector are broken.

The original is working but I thought I needed a new one cos it seems like I'm charging it more often lately. I've had the new one charging for 6 hours now and it's still not working so I hope I can get a refund cos it must be faulted. Thanks kandatoo.
