Thanks again so much for all your posts. I still feel that to not be finished by 48 is not unusual then. :)

I will consider the things people have mentioned like the mirena coil is it??? If they get really bad. They're annoying and inconvenient but not horrendous at the mo, IYSWIM.

I will play it by ear. But thanks for your help ladies. xxx
The thought of it makes me go :eek: but here's some info for you :)

    Hi

My periods gradually got fewer and fewer once I had turned 50, first every 2 months then every 3 till they eventually stopped when I was 51.

I think you were being a bit optimistic to think you would stop in your early 40's - I didn't have my daughter till I was nearly 42.

On the plus side since I stopped I have had none of the typical menopause symptoms that I was dreading.

OK, so I am 48 and I am STILL having periods! Silly me, I thought I would have finished by 42-43 ish.

They are regular: I usually come 'on' 25-28 days after the last day of the last period, and they are quite heavy, and sometimes quite painful. Some months they're not so bad.

So to all the ladies who have gone past menopause, and whose periods have finished; at what age did you have your very last period, ever?

    Thanks in advance. x

    Hi Flossie

You have my sympathy, I have just turned 48,,since May i have had my periods every 2 weeks:eek::eek:, they are extremely painful and heavy ( I am flooding also) I permanentely feel like I have a period pain though......I am grouchy, moody and tearful, also had a couple of panic attacks:(.
After reading the side effects of Norithersterone, I wont be going near that (not much of a pill popper anyways even paracetomol)

Fingers crossed Floss we will soon be "normal" :rotfl:

    thanks

After years of irregular periods and thinking I was getting towards the menopause at 53 starting with problems with my periods, mini pill didnt help, had investigations and consultant recommended Mirena coil. Had it fitted at 52, now 55 and its still there and can stay there for a few more years I was told. Slightly unfortable when fitted, a few cramps afterwards, a bit of spotting over the next 3 months ad nothing since. Would definitely recommend. Not sure whether I have gone through the menopause or not, but not had any symptoms. There is a thread on here all to do with the mirena as I posted on it last night, maybe worth having a read.

So I am 50, (and a half :p) and have just skipped a period

Given my age and having a coil fitted, I think it unlikely that I am pregnant (though I guess not impossible:eek:).

No symptoms, no flushes, nowt like that

So, is that it? Can it just....... Stop? I am not looking for medical advice, just experiences. Can't believe it is that simple.
I wanna be in the room where it happens

I cannot remember exactly when I stopped having periods, around 53 I think, but they were pretty erratic for 3 or 4 years prior. Missing months here and there and then more often than usual for a while, sometimes really heavy and flooding, but eventually it all came to an end thank goodness, had a few hot flushes, but the night sweats were the worst for me, used to get up, take off my night clothes and wrap myself in a bath sheet and go back to bed:( Some of the complimentary products helped a lot, but it was a bit trial and error.

  • I haven't had a monthly for over 10 years due to being on the contraceptive injection which stops them completely.
3 years ago I was diagnosed with cancer in my head, most of it was taken away but some couldn't be removed, it then spread to my spine and is incurable but I have been given tablets to keep it at bay, so far so good, unfortunately the tablet is a male hormone one which has caused the menopause within a month of taking it, the sweats are unbearable but no mood swings, I was 50 last Thursday. Has any of you kind people any idea how long this will last, the first time in my life I am looking forward to cold weather, the hot even warm weather has took everything out of me, 3 or 4 showers daily.
  • I hate to burst your bubble OP but I am still not done with this and I am 59 next month. My periods were regular until I was 57 and have been erratic since then. They settled for a while at one every two months and now (fingers crossed) I haven't had one since May and now the hot flushes have started, I am hopeful that I am finally nearly there.

There is a history of late menopause in my family. My mother had a hysterectomy at 50 for no reason other than that she could afford to pay for one to stop her horrendous periods.
