Question for the ladies who've gone past menopause/finished having periods

OK, so I am 48 and I am STILL having periods! Silly me, I thought I would have finished by 42-43 ish.
They are regular: I usually come 'on' 25-28 days after the last day of the last period, and they are quite heavy, and sometimes quite painful. Some months they're not so bad.
So to all the ladies who have gone past menopause, and whose periods have finished; at what age did you have your very last period, ever?
Thanks in advance. x

I'm not past the menopause but the G.P said to me that the average age for that in the U.K was 50 years old.0

My last was just 3 months after I was 51. Had a horrendous year of very frequent periods, like every 15 days, doc put me on norethisterone which sorted it. Took the last lot, had a period then nothing ever again.0

Might be worth having a chat with your doctor about heavy, painful periods. They can often be caused by fibroids in the womb, how do I know that ?
I was 52 and 4 months when I had the last one, so you might still have a while to go.Fully paid up member of S.A.B.L.E.

Thanks ladies. Would be interested to hear from more ladies too, to see more variations.

Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.
(Pity they are mangled by this autocorrect!)0 -
I had my last one age 54.
I had periods in Jan and Feb that year, than nothing til August and September. Then that was it. Previous year, I had 8 periods, some heavy some light. I was recording when and how for at least 3 years in my diary, whilst awaiting Liberation Day!
BTW, I was very lucky, I had no meno symptoms to speak of and feel exactly the same now as I always did, so don't despair, there is hope!0 -
Although I had a hysterectomy at aged 45 - because of fibroids - my ovaries were left intact, and I eventually went through the menopause at 54! (I had regular blood tests, which showed the levels of oestrogen etc in my body).
Now, there are far better ways of dealing with fibroids.0 -
Mid fifties.
NB : If having stopped , you have what seems a normal period about a year later, see your GP urgently.
I had this, called in for reassurance (thought it was ok) and was told to wait see the GP during the current surgery. He said I would need a scan and consultation. This was on a Thursday, so I was alarmed to be phoned with an appointment for the Monday.
Thankfully, I had no problem, but apparently there is /was an NHS protocol fast tracking to test for womb cancer. (Most people are ok and it would have been nice to be told this before seeing the consultant)0 -
I'm 46 and at about 42 I went onto desogretrol (progsterone pill).
I get migraines so I had an increased risk of stroke with the standard pill.
My periods stopped and I've had no side effects so it's been fab for me.
I understand that not everyone gets on with it, but for those for whom it's suitable it's great not to have periods any more.0 -
I was 49. I missed a couple then they finally stopped at 49.This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
