    I was 47 which my GP said was called early as under 50. Just stopped.

    I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

    OP is it worth you considering a Mirena Coil as they usually reduce periods to almost nothing and at your age should take you right into the Menopause? To add to your informal survey, nearly 52 here and no symptoms of menopause yet.

    Mine stopped at around 47....If I can last until Christmas it will be 2 years curse-free!

    I get a bit hot sometimes but nothing unbearable. And it's such a relief no longer having major temper tantrums/uncontrollable crying/depression every four weeks. :j

    I met a woman recently who was having her fourth child...she was 48!! (And not overly thrilled about it either.)

    Hi. I am 41 so not experiencing this yet. However when I researched my family tree I was stunned to find that most of the women in my family had kids in their late 40s and some aged 50. Obviously there were no fertility treatments back then so I would say normal menopause age appears to be 50+. I can't wear tampons either, have you tried wearing two pairs of quite tight knickers in bed? Holds pad closer to you and helps prevent leaks.

    I'm 43, have been in peri-menopause for about a year. When you have had no periods for a year I think, you're in menopause, up to that time is nightmare....google it, it's talked about a lot more than it used to be, mood swings are the killer for me!
  • My periods were very irregular & light :j:Twhen I did have them .
    My last one ... I was 46 :(my flushes still here though , I'm 53 soon !:eek::eek::eek::(:(:(:(

  • Another vote for the Mirena coil here. I didn't stop bleeding for weeks on end, had the scans etc, then was given a Mirena coil and have never looked back. Not comfortable to insert or change but sooo worth it :D

    As for the menopause, I have had the odd hot flush but do not know if that was it or not, hopefully when I have this coil removed in about 3 years that will be that. I am currently 53.
    What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare
  • I am 47....48 next month and thought I was in perimenopause as all my life I have been regular as clockwork at 28 days but for the past year or so they have been 26 days and much much heavier. Have flooded a couple of times and its horrible. Also feel so drained and anti social for first couple of days. Get the occasional hot sweat in the middle of the night.

    Last two periods have gone back to 28 days though so maybe not perio after all.

    My mothers responce when I tell her of my flooding is...."get an hysterectomy!) She had one at a younger age than I am now but I totally disagree unless things start to totally disrupt my life. I'd much rather go the natural route.

    Sounds like peri to me still!
