That is young, were you offered HRT?

A couple of weeks before my 54th birthday. That was 6 months ago, so I can't say I've definitely gone through menopause yet.
I did hear of one lady who had her last period aged 60
  • For those that have stopped.....do they seem to stop all of a sudden or is it a gradual process of missing a few and then having one?

    I guess everyone is different.

  • I'm 51 now. I used to have very regular periods, not too heavy, then four years ago I started to bleed very heavily , with large blood clots, constantly. Had all the tests for fibroids, lesions, but nothing showed up. Headaches, night sweats and hot flushes in day were terrible. Didn't matter how many sanitary toewls and tampons I used I still leaked. Not too good at work!!! Very, very embarrasing, I even had to cancel some meetings as I daren't sit down for fear of leaving a stain on other people's chairs. Still got a faint outline on the car seat!

1 year ago I was put back on mini pill which has stopped the bleeding altogether. Doctor says to stay on it till I'm 55, then come off and see what happens. She told me the age you go through the menopause will be similar to your mothers, but my mum stopped having periods at 48 and never had any hot flushes or anything.
I love a bargain. Now mortgage and debt free. hurray!!:smileyhea

Mine finished when I was 50,they had been getting lighter for about 2 years previous to that and then I had nothing for 6 months and then one final very light one. I had occasional hot flushes,in fact still get the odd one 15 years later, but otherwise a fairly uneventful menopause.

I am 48 and haven't had one for about 4/5months so not sure if they're over. I have really bad hot flashes though, especially at night. I had an ovary and tube removed last year so I'm not sure if that's brought it on as I had no symptoms (just irregular) until then.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I had my last period at the age of 58, around three years ago. I have been lucky in that I've never had any menopausal symptoms such as hot flushes, and talking to my mother, she said she was the same and finished at 55. My last period was a horror though, and very heavy. The previous year, I had started going a bit longer between periods but they were still pretty regular.

No, came away thinking it was normal, nothing offered, didn't actually get any hot flushes but other signs of aging were there ie dry skin and hair. I've since been diagnosed with Hashimoto's but here in the UK T4 has to be seriously awry before further testing is considered, so may have been that.

Thanks again so much for all your posts. I still feel that to not be finished by 48 is not unusual then. :)

I will consider the things people have mentioned like the mirena coil is it??? If they get really bad. They're annoying and inconvenient but not horrendous at the mo, IYSWIM.

I will play it by ear. But thanks for your help ladies. xxx
