The Road to Financial Security

Kitchen decoration is a work in progress, old tiles have been removed and ceiling painted (glitter ceiling :T), not the guy's fault but wow do I hate having workmen in, dog is very unsettled as well. Hoping he'll finish Friday but can't really judge it right now.
Looking forward to when it's finished & fabulous and we can actually hang the picture we bought at the Ideal Home in 2015!! We are so bad at stuff like that - it's never been on the wall.
Saw my dad's financial advisor yesterday which was very helpful in terms of what we need to do next, how much I need to earn, how the pensions are looking etc.
I feel I"m going against the grain on this forum but we are likely going to focus on increasing DH's pension and do that instead of overpaying the mortgage. Won't do anything until I start earning some dosh again but I think this makes sense.0 -
Busy weekend not helped by the kitchen not being finished & everything still topsy turvy. DS had friends round for a sleepover last night which was ok but a bit stressful doing breakfast for them in the building site of a kitchen - especially as they wanted pancakes
After his friends had gone we went shopping (DS's request). I took a top back my mum bought me and bought 2 tops in the N£xt sale - bargain if they fit but I haven't tried them on yet.
Told myself I now won't buy any new clothes until I am down into the next stone - have only lost 0.5lb in the last 3 weeks - really annoyed about it and really struggling with the whole soup week thing.
Had a take away last night and lunch out today using the excuse of not being able to use the kitchen - maybe a bit weak but kind of understandable.
Decorator due to finish tomorrow - so looking forward to getting things straight again.0 -
I hope the decorating is now done - I feel your pain.
The fact that you've lost any weight is better than staying still and much better than putting it on, so don't be down about that. I watched an interesting documentary that explained how our bodies know when we have a calorie deficit and will desperately try to put it back on. That's why sticking to weight loss and weight management is so hard. Not impossible, but hard!
I've been ill for weeks so I'm completely ignoring the scales. And the housework.Mortgage (Start Sep 2014)- £70,295/£0 - 100%

The decorator finished at lunchtime today, he painted both window sills and a large portion of skirting board so I haven't done very much cleaning yet as I didn't want to risk messing up the gloss.
So tomorrow is cleaning day, plan to get stuck in as soon as I'm back from the morning dog walk. I can get most things straight, then DH can put the blinds, pictures, spice rack etc up at the weekend.
Really pleased with the result although wouldn't bother with the sparkly ceiling again - it's way too subtle and wasn't cheap.
Another bad day food wise - what is wrong with me! All my hard work of recent weeks is being undone - have only just done 10,000 steps today - had been averaging about 15,000 a day of late. Hoping once I get the house straight I will get back into a healthier routine.
Getting jittery about work - need to start temping but feel intermittently very nervous about it.
Amycool - sorry to hear you're still feeling ill - hope things start to improve soon. x0 -
Naughty trip to the cinema this afternoon, I bought some vouchers before I left my job as cheap tickets was one of the (few) perks. Went to see Lion which is of no interest to the boys and I really fancied some escapism. Fantastic film and one I would never watch at home so really pleased I went.
Very little in the way of housework or job hunting done...Starting to think maybe it's not worth working until the new tax year - excuses excuses!;)0 -
Redundancy payment came through today - the end of an era....
Paid off the loan I owed my parents for the car and opened up a new savings account which I'll transfer the balance to when I get the registration details.
Organised a phone call with the my personal career counsellor from the transition/outplacement company for next Tuesday, need to do some prep before hand. I think the wheels are slowly starting to move.
Went for a long dog walk with my dad today and he was gently prodding me to get things rolling - he's German so his gentle prodding is actually rather painful!:rotfl:;):D0 -
Up and out with the dog before 9 today despite the time change. Working hard (mentally) to get my mojo back regarding losing weight as I have really slipped last couple of weeks. Even bought a tub of salted caramel ice cream yesterday
Got 2 necklaces for mothers day - one from DS, one from the dog - shocked to discover that DH not only funded all this but did the choosing as well. We've agreed it's the last year we do that as DS is 15 now and needs to step up a little more even if it means going through the pain of him not having anything for one of our birthdays etc.
My parents are coming over for a roast dinner this afternoon, I've been doing some pottering in the house to tidy up but all in all quite a chilled day.0 -
I made the error of assuming my Fitbit hadn't updated the time, so at 6.23 I got up with DD (who was wide awake) and then realised it was ACTUALLY 6.23.
They had a mothers day bring and buy at DD's school and I did quite well as I got some socks and a teddy bear. One of my friends got a packet of biscuits! I also got 3 lovely cards (my mum got me one), and chocolates and flowers!Mortgage (Start Sep 2014)- £70,295/£0 - 100%

Am in CV hell!!! Finally discussed things with the careers coach I have access to, had feedback on my CV and feel I have spent the day working on it - mainly failing miserably.
Hate doing things like that - not sure if it's a British culture thing in terms of not wanting to show off and blow your own trumpet.
Quick trip to 1k£a this morning for a new drainer for the kitchen. Was mortified to discover I was pushing a trolley with someone elses stuff in it - and they had a lot of stuff - retraced my steps and managed to find them. Fortunately they saw the funny side! :rotfl:
Done my first draft budget for April - first month with no salary. Had told DH I would contact a temp agency this week - time is ticking by and I haven't - weirdly as time goes on I seem to have less energy - not sure where the time is going but I am certainly not using it particularly wisely.
Don't mean to sound negative, woke with a very still neck Monday (slept awkwardly) it's getting better but still affecting me and making me grumpy.0 -
The fantastic weather is certainly cheering me up which to be honest I need at the moment! Having a few frustrations with recruitment agencies and although I think I have finished my CV still not sure it's great. Also struggle to articulate what I want to do for a job - few confidence issues huh!
Anyway I have managed to get an appointment tomorrow so fingers crossed they turn out to be good and have some temp work for me in the near future.
Also struggling with the training - as part of the redundancy agreement there is an allowance for training but it turns out you have to find your own course and just email them the link. I am wary of finding a course on the internet that might turn out to be rubbish. Have asked DH to ask who his company uses for training so hopefully that will provide me with a reputable course.
Met a friend for shopping yesterday - even sat outside for lunch. Was after some casual shoes and had my eye on silver c0nv£rse, however my friend took me to N£w L00k (haven't been in there for about 20 years!) and I got a pair for £17 - compared to the +£50 for c0nv£rse I thought a good bargain. My turn to pay for lunch and I also bought a jumper on impulse - it is going back though as I tried it on and didn't like it.
Quite pricey weekend for someone with no income
Today I have been quite productive, sprayed and scrubbed the dirty grout around the bathroom tiles, washed the shower curtain & cleaned main bedroom including changing sheets. As he's now on Easter holidays am taking DS to the cinema later (still got some vouchers :T) to see King Kong - not relishing it but hopefully will be ok as it has Tom Hiddleston in it.
In less positive news DH thinks he his coming down with a cold - much feeling sorry for himself and general pathetic behaviour anticipated!0
