I know it's all happening quickly but maybe that's for the best as it forces you to get going!
I hope you find something really good, and as you say, non-American.Mortgage (Start Sep 2014)- £70,295/£0 - 100%

Haven't been on here for a while, struggling with the MFW mojo due to finishing my job.
What I don't want to do is panic and desperately get any job I can then end up just as unhappy as I have been in my current job. So I am determined to take a full month off and just do some domestic chores, really increase my exercise and just decompress a little. Who knows I might then have a few ideas of what I actually fancy doing.
Another redundancy cycle announced at work today which has reaffirmed my decision I think. DH is being so supportive as well.
No real money news, except DS wants some casual shoes now so we'll be going shopping at the weekend. :eek:0 -
Glad you feel it's the right decision even if it's a bit daunting...a month off to recharge and reflect sounds very sensible.

New casual shoes for DH - £70 :eek::eek::eek::eek: I know I could have forced him into a cheaper shop but he is nearly 15 and has only these shoes and his school shoes so I took the view he can have what he wants. Still shocked that his shoes are costing more than mine now!
Also got him a new PE bag for £8 so at least one bargain. Bought lunch out in the J0hn L£w1s cafe - disappointing lack of sandwich choice!
I also bought myself a new top (£19) very naughty as I just wanted a treat for being out shopping
DH decided his pants needed replacing so spent £70 on new pairs - his money his choice!
Glad to be back home now as it's bitterly cold.
We have changed tariff with BG to a new one which has free electricity on Sundays from 9 to 5. From now on I will be madly washing, drying and baking on Sunday!0 -
Am now officially unemployed/a lady of leisure - depending on my positivity levels :rotfl:
Feel very odd and not quite sure what to do but have quite a few plans over the next couple of weeks, I know I need to keep busy.
Biggest concern is my old employer cocks up my payment, am owed 6 days leave for example - have sent the contact details of every help line and HR rep I know to my personal email - just in case.
Very pleasantly surprised by the outplacement service provided, help with cv writing, access to an IFA, your own personal careers counsellor & £500 training budget. My counsellor has already phoned to introduce herself to me.
I am taking a month out where I am determined not to look for work etc - not sure if I even want to stay in IT. It may sound counterintuitive but I have been with my company for so long I need to decompress & clear my head. Hoping this time out will reset my mind and I'll then have a better idea about what to do next.
Heres hoping huh!
Can't even have a drink as I'm determined to stick to soup week :eek:0 -
Enjoy this morning that of freedom and being a lady of leisure. It seems to have happened really quickly despite months of uncertainty.
I am usually encouraging of healthy eating but I think I'd be having the wine this evening!June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -
It seems my first day post employment starts with insomnia - I think I am still a bit all over the place emotionally - I was with the company 20 years so it's all a big change - mustn't over think it though.
Quite nice being up this early - just me and dog, catching up on some recorded telly. Will likely catch a granny nap laterJust house chores and a trip to the cinema later.

DH is cooking bacon & eggs - lip smacking good, haven't had a full English breakfast for months. Then we are off to Godalming for a walk along the river, were originally going to visit an NT house but it's such lovely weather thought we would treat the dog to some new scents.
Just moved to a new tariff with BG - free electricity between 9 & 5 on Sundays - 2nd load of washing currently on and tumble dryer is whirring around. Need to maximise it so 2 more loads ready to go in.0 -
I'm tempted to look into the BG tariff. We are already with them but since our bills are currently quite low I'm reluctant to change anything! We both work Monday to Friday though so it sounds ideal for us.June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0

Cath - our monthly amount (we are dual fuel) is slightly lower on this new tariff, we've just had a smart metre fitted which should lead to even greater accuracy. Apparently you can see how much you save from the Sat or Sunday free electric tariff on line - will update with how it goes am hopeful it might save a few quid each month.0
