Bizarrely work has been really manic this week & it's making me bad tempered due to the black cloud of redundancy in the background.
Still no further updates from work, the initial !!!! up call was two weeks last Monday - I presume they are working in the background to get their ducks in a row before scheduling another meeting. I think it's appalling they cant' tell us that and say things are delayed etc but this is a big, bad commercial company with consideration only for the share price certainly not the employees. Wow I'm turning into a left wing militant
Anyway I've decided just to let it roll along in its own time. Getting worked up won't influence anything and will likely end up making me more wound up. The speed things are moving I think it may stretch out until the New Year anyway :rotfl:
No money news, having to buy some jazz shoes for DS as his current pair have a hole in them - thats £20.
Had an eye test today, no change in my prescription but they did offer me a free contact lens trial. I was seriously tempted - glasses are such a faff (with me it's pure old age - didn't need glasses til I hit 40). However with the work situation I thought best not - don't want ongoing costs of contact lenses if I'm going to lose my job.0 -
Hi Pushkin, good luck with the redundancy thing, I've been through it a few times, never a nice experience, but things always seem to turn out for the best and I'm sure it will for you too - keep smiling.Start Date 16/09/2015

just reading (sorry about the redundancy carp) and have to say I love the idea of the dog having a blueberry facialMade it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!0 -
Thanks for the comments guys - this forum is such a great outlet for whatever is going on in my little head!
Well thats another week gone - no more news on on the big R.
I have a week's leave now so will try to put it out of my mind.
Just started making a list of jobs
My biggest promise is to get up and dressed immediately, have a coffee, walk the dog then do some chores. Then I can be lazy. At weekends I have got into very bad habits f getting up and watching telly for a couple of hours then getting dressed and taking the dog out. It's lunchtime by then - and I'm actually a morning person!
So my late year resolution is to be productive in the mornings and slob out in the afternoons if I want to.
Went to see the new Jack Reacher film last night- really enjoyed it and thought it a very positive feminist film - the female soldier held her own.
Right best start my morning of productivity:D:D:D:D

Was out all day yesterday at a NT house with my parents - bought lunch for them and a jar of chutney for DH - always feel guilty when I'm off work and he isn't. Paid in cash and even spent the emergency tenner I have in my phone case
Pay day today so had the fun of some money shuffling first thing this morning.
Gave the bathroom a good clean and made DS sort out his wardrobe which resulted in a sack of rubbish :eek:
Feel really sleepy - not sure why, will take the dog out and am then tempted to have a granny nap - might be boring but it doesn't cost anything!0 -
Just checked DS's bank account & he has spent all his savings again
He has 2 accounts - a current & a savings account - I put money into each every week. Rule is he can spend from his current account on whatever he wants but must get permission from me or DH to withdraw from savings. Both accounts are empty.
We had an issue with this in July which resulted in me stopping his pocket money for for 2 months. Seems he hasn't learned.
I am really frustrated - trying so hard to help him learn the importance of saving. Cancelling pocket money or confiscating his bank card seems too easy & doesn't teach him self discipline.
Really not sure what to do.0 -
Didn't want to read and run
How old is DS??
I really struggled to get my DD to save and it's been a nightmare since she moved out (she lost her job once and was forced to leave a second) but when she gets money she under budgets and overspends and I pick up the pieces so can understand your frustration...............what about a sealed tin at home for savings, it might show him the benefits of saving for that more expensive itemDebt Free Diary - Second Chances! Life in a Tourer........Debt free, building a savings pot0 -
Hi Sue - DS is 14 and I can so relate to the anguish you must have regarding your DD, it's kind of how I was when young which is exactly why I am trying to train DS now - not very successfully!
For now his bank card has been confiscated but that is treating the symptoms not the cause. Will try and talk to him when this has calmed down a little.
Hope your daughter appreciates how lucky she is having you pick up the pieces for her.
Thats how I learned to budget. I built up a £2k credit card bill in my mid 20s and was making minimum payments each month & not getting anywhere with reducing it. My father found out & after much ranting and anger paid off the debt. I then paid him back and I have always repaid the full amount on my credit card each month. It taught me a big lesson.0 -
Feeling very boring at the moment with a decided lack of news. Quick trip to the shops today to exchange some school shirts I bought for DS in the wrong size & get some veg for dinner.
House is in a reasonable state as I've been off work although I haven't done the ironing yet
Have't bought any Christmas presents yet which isn't like me, think it's the work thing which is subliminally bumming me out.
Really do need to pull my finger out and start some planning though.0
