oddest / worst things brought home by your cat

  • My kitten brought in a huge but slightly-punctured slug. He's brought little ones in before (unbeknownst to us) but it seems to be that the bigger he grows, the bigger the slugs get.

    *shudders*
  • Back in Nottingham I opened the front door to see one of my cats then herd (not chase) an unknown cat into the house. Normally not that nice to other cats I was totally astonished. A few phone calls later and the unknown cat's owner was located, a few miles away on the other side of the River Trent to me, and he'd been missing for several days (this was pre microchip). Quite how my cat got it into his head to bring the cat to me, I do not know.

Obviously the other cat told yours it was lost and missing its mummy and as your cat didn't have twopence [1] for the phone [2] yours brought the other cat home to you.

    They're not daft you know!

    [1] No pockets

[2] And it's difficult to dial with paws
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.
  • My other cat Jessie once brought in a massive dragonfly. She placed it on the floor , my fiance noticed something there. The light being off at the time i thought it was a leaf. Then he put on the light & said don't move. Cue me in a panic frozen to the spot & screaming my head off. He then covered it up so i could quickly make an escape so he could deal with it.
My god it was horrible. However i was also extremely proud. She had to transport it from who knows where & bring it through a window. And that is after managing to catch it.

  • Our neighbour's have some sort of bird of prey as a pet that they feed mice (already dead).

Somehow my cat managed to steal one from the bird .

The worst part is that when we tried to take it off her she actually swallowed it WHOLE. Absolutely gross!
  • My 2 year old rescue cat loves bringing in very large moths in the evenings, drops them at my feet to show me how much she loves me and then spends the next 20 minutes chasing them around on the floor. Ultimately I'm afraid she eats them :( She even managed to bring in two simultaneously the other night which was quite an achievement. She also loves catching baby frogs and bring those in too. We spend many a happy 10 minutes trying to catch them in order to release them (they are usually an inch or less in size). If they go under something she cries and cries to try to persuade them to come out and play again. SHe doesn't seem interested in hurting them, although one morning I found half a frog on the rug, and last weekend an entire frog leg. No sign of the rest of the bodies though. I think they just sort of fell apart in her mouth.
I suppose I'm lucky though really. My sister's cat brings home half an animal regularly and once even came home with a grass snake.

My Tinka brought a sparrow into the lounge once. He also liked chasing flies. Sadly, that's the last of it, his body was taken into the vets by somebody yesterday having been hit by a car.

  • My kitty brought home a frog a couple of times it seemed unharmed but very, understandably, distressed and it hopped manically around the living room until I could catch it and safely return it to next doors pond.

One Christmas morning our 2 moggies sat with us watching whilst we opened the presents. Matilda especially was very interested when we gave her the bunched up paper to play with. We then let them out as usual and about 15-20 minutes later we heard a high pitched meowing outside and Matilda presented us with a dead blue-tit proudly laid out on the doorstep.

Not cat related but years ago the resident Great Dane caught a pheasant wondering in our yard so that was dinner sorted for the night !
