I don't understand why you say fees are 11-12% on Etsy?
I have been using it for a while and understand there is a 20cent fee for each listing and 3.5% final value fee. That is certainly how it has worked for me. Also I have specified Paypal for payments. It has proved to be so much cheaper than ebay which I have used since 20010 -

The total for my item was £2.99 and I received £2.67 net which is apparently in my etsy account - I do have PayPal enabled and am not sure how I managed to sign up for non PayPal payments. Unlike eBay there is no breakdown at all of fees , it just shows 32p as 'fees'. I did not pay a listing fee as I signed up ages ago using a referral link that gave me 20 free listings.
I keep meaning to go and check up the fees as there must be a breakdown somewhere on their site.
Incidentally mine all shows in sterling as I opted to pay and have my fees shown in my local currency.
EDIT
It seems I have direct checkout enabled which costs me. 4% + 0.20 GBP

OK - so how come the 11-12%? I think you can change your accepted payments to whatever you want. With Paypal there is, of course, a fee - bit it is the same as ebay.
Overall I have found that I am paying a great deal less in fees than on ebay.0 -

Well, 11% of £2.99 would be roughly 32p plus I still have an additional 3.5% to pay apparently.
I've been reading up and the direct checkout is recommended as apparently buyers prefer it, but I may remove it once I find out how and stick to PayPal as with a micro account the fee will be lower.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Sorry to labour this but I really don't understand. Is the 32pence definitely the final value fee - or is it listing fees at 20 cents each? (sorry don't know the sterling equivalent)
According to my figures each of my listings has cost 20cents. Each of my sales has been charged at 3.5%of the value of the sale. Paypal is a separate issue as it is the same whatever platform you use.0 -

No, as per my post 13 I did not pay a listing fee, I have however apparently enabled direct checkout and the link in my post shows the charges associated with that. I did not of course pay PayPal fees as etsy have taken the payment for me, but using a paypal micro account rather than direct payments would save me money
It isn't all about the fees for me though, I just need to have other outlets apart from eBay . Etsy would suit but unfortunately I have very little stock that i can squash into the 'handmade' criteriaI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Worth knowing that although Etsy payments have a 4% fee they don't apply a foreign currency loading fee to US dollar transactions. As most of my customers are in the USA payments from them via Etsy Payments are cheaper than my Paypal account (which has a 2.9% fee but a marked foreign currency / exchange loading)
The other bonus with Etsy Payments is that it includes free seller protection on refunds for items not received. All you have to do is provide proof of posting and for items over $250 send it tracked.

soolin - there are many items on Etsy which are not 'hand made' - especially in 'vintage' so the field is a little wider.0
