I am struggling to find any FAQs for Etsy- I have read all the bits I can find about fees etc, but I am obviously being dense as I can't find anything about terms/conditions rules etc.

The one thing I really want to know is whether I can turn off my Etsy shop, as I can with my ebay one.

EDIT- having looked for ages I just found FAQs quite by accident when looking for something else!

Just an update- I have made my first sale! Basically that makes it a better selling site for me than ebid based on numbers listed and speed of sale.

The fees were higher than I anticipated, approx 11-12% , payment seems to have gone via etsy payments , but comparable with ebay once you take into account both ebay and paypal fees.

I just wish I had more to list but I am struggling to define very much of my stock as 'hand made' and I have less than a handful of things listed

Have you tried folksy as well ? It's virtually identical to etsy except it's UK based. I've sold more on there than on etsy.

OOh thank you, I'll give them a go as well. I'm really trying to use other sites so that I am not 100% reliant on ebay

Well you had better luck than me, I could never get anything to be found on Etsy to sell it. I also don't have much that fits in so no great loss.

As for Folksy, be careful on listing fees, it's slightly different to Ebay and isn't too clear. I ended up being charged £20 for a simple listing, I told them of my error and they said to pay it, then ask for a refund, I declined.
From memory, I listed 100 of an item but was charged for 100 individual listings. It's a couple of years ago so they may have changed it.

Yes, RFW is right about the listing fees - you get charged a listing fee per item rather then per listing. It is a sensible policy though from them, considering what they're trying to be (not a mass produced tat market like ebay).
