I'm 99.9% sure you couldn't get any ADSL on a line swapped over to fibre anyway and as you suggested if there really is no change in speed it has to be still on ADSL. The only other possibilty I can think of is some antique WiFi connection masking the speed improvement.0

You are 100% correct. The fibre cabinet filters off the ADSL signal.
There could be a few scenarios here:
Posssibly the engineer has messed things up and connected your fibre service to someone else's line and you are still on ADSL.
Possibly there is a bridge tap on the line, ie extension sockets or an alarm system connected in parallel to your master socket. This will cause significant loss of speed and should be removed by the engineer.
Possibly there is no actual fault and you have a weak wireless signal. You would need to verify the sync speed in the router.0 -
They just don't have the time to stick around for a fully operational system to test. When they did my install, the engineer said he did the local connections, but somebody wasn't picking up the phone, so he left a message, and my service will be turned on sometime that day: and it was.
Essentially the customer is left to do an end to end testing.
It's like a car manufacturer saying, "The brakes should work, call us if it doesn't."
The customer really shouldn't have to deal with this.
It's the engineer that has the test instruments.
It's the engineer that has access to the cabinet wiring.
It's the engineer that has a spare VDSL faceplate if that's faulty.
My cabinet is about 50 meters away, and I get 35Mbps, and pay for Up to 40Mbps. I seriously doubt there is anything you can do to make it work correctly. Even if you can break into the street cabinet, what are you gonna do? Call them to send another engineer, and twiddle your thumbs.0
