Fed up with my cat

He's fussy. Eats only Felix AGAIL. I live in a small town , shops here not always have it and if they do, not on offer, so I buy it on weekly trip to supermarket. Sometimes food runs out and he sulks. . I've tried to buy cheaper brand, but he just won't it it, that was a waste. He has access to dry food and water all the time .

Can you order online? You may find offers, or that prices are cheaper than the supermarket. E.g. the new(ish) pet supply website from Ocado, Fetch, offer delivery slots similar to online grocery shopping I believe. 10% off your first order - you could stock up on a few packs

Alternatively, I've heard good reviews about the wet foods available on the Zooplus website, and they're a bit better quality than Felix.

If the food is running out you need to buy more, switching brands a lot can make cats even fussier.

I have 2 rescue cats that are very very fussy. I got them when they were 14 (now 16) and was told by the previous owner they were not fussy!!! Yeah right.

They honestly drive me mad and I am really fed up with throwing food away. Cheap food, expensive food, dry & wet they turn their noses up at it all. I honestly do not know how they stay alive.

  • My cat will just eat chicken IAMS. One occasion, I bought chicken & lamb and he went on hunger strike until I got more plain chicken! As a human, I would find that incredibly boring, but I've never worked out how a cat's mind works.

Stocking up from an online supplier is probably the best bet, as long as you've got room to store.

  • At the end of the day a cat will not let itself starve and they eat all sorts outside. Also there have been reported cases of people passing away and then their cats eating the body.
The thing is with cats is that they can go a lot time without food so they can play a waiting game if they want to.
Well so can the owners, I wont put up with it and what I bring into the house foodwize they generally eat. If they out and out hate it then fair enough but they both eat a variety of different meat and biscuits. I have some Purina biscuits they are not struck on, but they are getting through them. I think the key is to give the cats a wide variety like I give mine chicken breast chopped up and cooked(a bit),biscuits and a bit of tinned meat or pouch.
When people say that there cat will only eat x then they definatley will eat other things if you dont give in to them.

My cats don't go out so I know they are not eating anything else.

I give them a good variety and only put small amounts down at a time but they can't just sit there going stale can they? Once a pouch or tin is opened it just doesn't keep so I waste food. I really try not to give in to them but I have just never known such fussy cats. Oh and they won't eat fish or cooked chicken!

To be honest they are driving me so mad I have decided once they go that is it no more cats. Considering I have had cats for something like 38 years it shows how frustrating I am finding these two

So what do they eat exactly? I'm sure that if you kept some food down for a day, then changed it the next and so on they would evetually eat it.

I have had many cats over the years, all of whom would eat pretty much whatever was offered, but my latest two are very fussy. We recently ran out of their Arden Grange dried, and they turned their little velvet noses up at the wet food I had in the cupboard - JWB and Applaws. So most of it was thrown away as the wet food just doesn't keep.

Instead they went out and got a 'takeaway' bringing mice into the house. Not ideal when the the mice are scurrying around the kitchen with Mr BD running after with a teatowel trying to catch them before we have to dismantle furniture to retrieve said furry rodent. Plus of course there are parasites that they can pick up from 'live' food.

Luckily the Zooplus parcel arrived and order was restored, although the new packet of food was given a few suspicious sniffs before it was deemed acceptable.

I do wonder if pet food manufacturers now add additives (IYSIM) which predispose the cat to wanting more of the same brand.

OP, as has been suggested why not buy online? Zooplus are very reliable, with a great selection, and there is always Amazon who also sell Felix cat food. The price does fluctuate with Amazon, but you can get some good deals. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Felix-Looks-Favourites-Selection-Pouches/dp/B004WDOTV2

Throwing away cat food is a real pain, but if they won't eat it, they won't eat it. I'd rather buy what they like, than risk health problems and parasites by letting them fend for themselves.
It is a good idea to be alone in a garden at dawn or dark so that all its shy presences may haunt you and possess you in a reverie of suspended thought.

I think this is such a sad statement to make; I can't imagine not having pets, especially cats, around. Luckily I have never had that problem, all my cats have usually eaten what has been put in front of them unless they have been ill.

But your cats must be eating something to stay alive. I am wondering, as they are now considered quite elderly, being 16, have you had them checked out by a vet? I have always found that elderly cats don't eat a lot, perhaps the very small amounts they do eat are more than sufficient.

My two are rescue cats and eat almost anything. I give them wet and dried food but any left over protein as well.

Cheaper food is made with cheaper ingredients, its not cheap because the manufacture just wants to charge less its because its all the nasty bits. They then fill it full of colour and additives to try to appeal to cats. In essence to try and make it look and smell like nicer cuts of meat.

Ever wondered why some cats and dogs eat poo! not nice but its because the additives are so strong it smells like the pre-digested food. I would still to what they like and every now and again try something different. If they like it fab if not well at least its another one the list not to buy.
