I use TB to download POP3 e mail from 5 accounts
One of the a/c is Mrs B's - What I want to do is *not* d/l her regular stuff from Waitrose, Gardening Club etc, but to just d/l more unusual things so I can notify her (as I check many times a day and she rarely does so)
I have tried 'Message filters' and set it up thus
Where 'from' 'is' 'waitrose' (and there are three more so far!) 'delete message' but this hasn't worked!
Any suggestions?
The 'delete message' is a bit vague as it doesn't exactly say where it deletes them from - does it still d/l them and just move them to the deleted box??
I just noticed that 'match all of the following' is ticked, which I have now changed to 'any of the following'
Would that make a difference????

Why not just set up her own user account with just her own email account on it (and not on yours)? No free lunch, and no free laptop

Yes - if you have a number of FROMs in the filter list then as you originally had it it would never have worked - with the way now then it should work.0 -
i assume that you are only downloading the headers.. but I take it that you have also set messages to stay on the server , sadly i am out and on an ipad so i can't check the exact the settings you need to set4.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . That changes it from an AND condition to an OR condition. So 'match all of the following' means
IF sender=Waitrose AND sender="other boring thing" THEN perform specified action (delete)
whereas 'any of the following' means:
IF sender=Waitrose OR sender="other boring thing" THEN perform specified action (delete)
I think you want the latter.Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20230 -
I'm not sure you can do what you want in TB, although if you manage it I'll be interested to see the details so I can reproduce them myself. If you fail then you may have more success setting something up with your email provider (you don't say who it is) so that the messages are never made available for download - for instance, on receipt forward the emails to another address then delete them from the server.0

I *think* I agree with you, but it still doesn't work
Do you think 'filter before junk classification' makes any difference?0 -
Hmm :mad:I'm not sure you can do what you want in TB.
It sounds such a simple idea - 'if you see a message from xyz, just don't download it'
I'm sure Outlook Express would do that.
1&1your email provider (you don't say who it is)
But then Mrs B would have to have two separate addresses, which may be too complex for her :rotfl:for instance, on receipt forward the emails to another address then delete them from the server.0 -
I am not quite sure from reading your thread exactly what you are trying to achieve (my fault probably rather than yours as everyone else seems to have grasped it
):What I want to do is *not* d/l her regular stuff from Waitrose......Where 'from' 'is' 'waitrose'.... 'delete message'
'Assuming' that you want specific e-mails to be downloaded to your inbox and others blocked why not set up a whitelist in Thunderbird.
Everything on your whitelist goes straight to your 'Inbox' and everything not on the whitelist can be diverted to 'Junk' for immediate deletion or reading later, or sent to any other folder you care to nominate.0
