Ok good. So will it become a full credit search if we go ahead and apply fully? I have emailed my broker as he has not called me back as promised. So as he has only tried Nationwide and Aldermore then this should only be 1 credit search other lenders can see if we decide to try elsewhere?

Don't get tied down on soft and full searches.

Note also that Aldermore's systems do not give the broker an opportunity to manually input credit histories.

Your biggest risk is exactly as GMS says, the solicitor reporting to Aldermore following a bankruptcy search as part of their due of care to the lender.

The lender may give you an exception, but I would have thought the safest way is to ask for that upfront, before the full application goes in.

Have your broker speak to their contacts at Aldermore.

  • My broker has just sent me this email "Sorry I thought he was six years discharged. I'll ring you later"!!! I have been completely upfront and honest about the bankruptcy etc and supplied him with all exact dates so there is no reason for him to be thinking this. He knew we were waiting for the bankruptcy to fall off my partners credit reports too so how could he think he's six years discharged??!! Arrrgghhh!!!

Cut him some slack. At least we have caught the situation before it became a bigger issue. Now you can plan again.

Have not heard from him yet but if it is a no go with Aldermore not sure what our next step is. Really don't want to wait another year with my ex husbands name on my property as you never know what is round the corner and wouldn't want my partner to be homeless when he has contributed more to this mortgage than my ex ever did but as it lies if something happened to me my ex could kick him out and sell this house. Do you think there are any reputable companies who deal with bankrupts 5 years discharged? I know you can't name names on here and we don't mind paying a higher interest rate for a few years until we can get a better deal. Recommendations would be gratefully received

I suspect there will be options if you have a decent level of equity.

But it is not just about the bankruptcy - It is the whole case.

I am surprised your broker has not come back to you yet.

He didn't even call. Tried the office phone and his mobile but no reply. Feeling quite let down at the moment and really not sure what to do for the best now. Obviously nothing until Monday now :(

Well he never rang and my partner wasn't working til this afternoon and tried both the office and mobile a few times and no reply on either. He left messages but no call back. Will wait to see what happens on Monday but it does seem like he now doesn't want to speak to us. If he has made a mistake and messed things up then why can't he just say so we can maybe look elsewhere ourselves. Not sure where we will look but being ignored certainly isn't helping the situation
