Looks like it could be a timed exclusive: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-08-13-microsoft-confirms-rise-of-the-tomb-raider-xbox-exclusivity-deal-has-a-duration0

I have two Xbox Ones in my house (me and my partner) and downloading digitally allows us to both play a game online together at the same time by only buying one copy - massive advantage. Saving £55 on buying the game in the first place is usually a bigger saving than whatever pre-owned price I'd get for it later on.
Plus I don't trade in games anyway. I don't like retailers making a massive profit on pre-owned titles by selling them for basically the same price as new, and forcing the publishers/developers to come up with new tactics to get our money like online passes etc.
I also switch games a lot when playing with friends and it is a big convenience never having to go look for discs on the shelf, everything is immediately ready to play.
Re midnight thing, if it' a big game I've been looking forward to I'd book the next day of work and have a nap at about 10pm so I'm good to play it after the midnight release with all my friends
You could trade it on eBay, as I say its my opinion.
Having two Xbox's in your house certainly makes the downloading more worthwhile in the long run.
I must admit I will no be going to bed when Destiny comes out, booked the whole week off for that bad boy.0 -

Yea I could I guess, but trading on eBay still takes the money away from the developers, and I'd personally rather support them buy buying new. I do tend to revisit old games aswell so I'm quite happy to embrace digital.
The only downside is missing out on Limited Edition goodies. With Master Chief edition for example, we are buying digital to both play online, but will buy a hard copy anyway as we want the map book and steel tin as collector's items. I'll probably give the disc itself to a friend. I wish we could buy the Limited Edition from a store, but get a version that has a code inside the box instead of a disc.0 -

I'm sorry, this may be a pet peeve of mine. :A At least you didn't say "digital download", as that expression literally makes my head explode!Q: What kind of discussions aren't allowed?
A: It goes without saying that this site's about MoneySaving.
Q: Why are some Board Guides sometimes unpleasant?
A: We very much hope this isn't the case. But if it is, please make sure you report this, as you would any other forum user's posts, to forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com.0 -
Well. Sorry to have annoyed you.
I know what 'digital' means by dictionary definition, but in the 'gaming' world, it is generally accepted that 'digital' is the term used to distinguish downloadable games from games that are bought on a physical disc. On that basis, GAME quite happily use the term Digital Downloads that you hate so much.
By embracing 'digital' I mean I'm embracing downloadable content and the inevitable future death of disc based gaming.0 -
Yes, "Digital Downloads" in that case is a marketing holdover from the 90s where everything "digital" was new and better and wow and zap and kapow! You know as well as I do that Game aren't striving for technical masterminds in their marketing department. They might as well have called that section "Cowboy Bebop at his computer".
Amazon also get it wrong, but they flip-flop on the issue - they had it wrong a few years ago, had it right about a year ago, but seemed to have got it wrong again before Christmas.
It's not commonly "accepted" in the gaming world. It's just a common mistake. There's a difference."Alot" is a common English mistake, but it's not accepted English. D'you see?
Edit: your apology isn't necessary, by the way. It's not a big deal! It's just one of those mild annoyances for me. I don't think I could take you to court over it! I should probably be the one apologising to you for going on about it!Q: What kind of discussions aren't allowed?

No it's fine. I know I'm the same whenever somebody says "I could care less".
I frequent gaming forums/news sites a lot, and 99% of the time the word 'digital' is used in reference to downloadable content (as opposed to a physical disc), not that the game is digital in the dictionary definition of the word. So (possibly wrongly) I have just adopted the same terminology for convenience when talking about purchasing downloadable games.0 -
Timed exclusive then. No need for PC and ps4 owners to get their knickers in a twist anymore.
Just wait a little bit longer for the proper version.0 -

Wouldn't be too certain. Phil Spencer wouldn't really give anything too detailed away, but the only thing he really confirmed is that he hasn't bought the Tomb Raider franchise in it's entirety:
"When people want me to say, can you tell us when or if it's coming to other platforms, it's not my job," Spencer said. "My job is not to talk about games I don't own. I have a certain relationship on this version of Tomb Raider, which we announced, and I feel really good about our long term relationship with Crystal and Square.
"I get the reaction I see. If I'm a PlayStation person all of a sudden I feel like, the franchise has gone. I didn't buy the IP. I didn't buy the studio. It's not mine. Where this thing will go over time, just like Dead Rising or Ryse, we'll see what happens with the game. I don't own every iteration of Tomb Raider."
OK, it sounds like it will possibly end up on PS4/PC in the long run yes, but I'd be surprised if it happens within 12 months of the 2015 release date.
If it had gone to Sony and I was on the other side of the fence right now I'd be pretty miffed...0 -

The game will (eventually) appear on other consoles..0
