Amazon marketplace- nightmare seller

  • He thinks I have lied because I said it wouldn't tune into UK channels. It wouldn't when I tried to set it up. I had to choose between the 3 countries already mentioned. At this point I wrote back to the seller again requesting a return and refund because I wasn't happy it only offered continental channels. The seller completely ignored the fact I had asked for a return quoting the SOGA, and gave me a huge list of complicated instructions to put it back to factory settings, then retune it to the UK settings. (I was trying to give a bit of an abbreviated version in my OP as it was long and convoluted enough already, and I mistakenly thought most people would get the gist of it without calling me a liar.) Now maybe one person here thinks I was being unreasonable not to accept this and sort it all out myself, but as I said before, why should I? I wouldn't have walked out of Curry's with a set like that, so why should I settle for it because I bought it online? I am beginning to wish I had never posted this problem, but would like to thank everyone who gave me constructive advice. That has been gratefully accepted.

I rather suspect that a judge in the small claims court would agree with you as well. The product was clearly not meant by the manufacturer to be sold in the UK, and so IMO it's not unreasonable for the OP to be dis-satisifed by that. Perhaps if they were a television engineer, or had a good knowledge of the product, they might make a decision that actually the television met their needs by making some changes, but to the average consumer, the television doesn't meet their needs.

Hopefully Amazon will resolve the problem before needing to progress down another route.

I think what the op means os that it won't tune to U.K. channels automatically, might take someone who is quite 'technical'.

O.P., I agree with you completely. I wouldn't want any extra hassle with tuning it in. I also seem to recall reading that there was a new rule that electrical items can no longer be sold with a two pin plug and adaptor. They must have a U.K. 3 pin.

I'd like to hear how you get on with this and see if Amazon sort it out for you.
  • Well I filed a claim with Amazon which I didn't know I could do until I asked on here because of it being an outside seller. Anyway, they seem to have given the trader a sharp nudge, because I had an email yesterday saying the tv would be collected by courier today, and sure enough it's been collected. I am just awaiting my refund now and I won't rest easy until that has been done. However, it's looking good now, but it has put me off buying large or expensive items online :(

    Good news.

Its a shame that some people seem to come on here to belittle and pick holes in people who are justing looking for a bit of advice.

Its a shame people dont post factually in the first instance, time and time again you have to pull peoples posts apart to get to the truth and being drip fed information.
