It's not illegal if they supply the TV with an adaptor. Which they didn't. They'd broken the law as soon as they sent the TV out without one.

But that wasn't the only problem, was it? The TV wouldn't tune in to UK stations. It was set up to be used in Germany, Austiria or Switzerland. There was no country choice for the UK.

Well that is where you are wrong based on what you said and fact. A European Digital TV will work in the UK.

Also you would have been able to amend it in the service menu if the german, swiss or austrian on screen numbers on the TV didnt look like english numbers we use.

Maybe I could, but why should I??? It was bought as a brand new tv in the UK, so it would be reasonable to expect that it would tune in to UK channels, but it doesn't. Not without a load of techie rigmarole that I wasn't informed about before the purchase. The advisor for trading standards agreed it wasn't fit for purpose, but it sounds like you know better than her.

Well you said it wouldnt tune in to UK TV channels and it would? Just being factual.

At the first attempt the TV was not fit for purpose as it had the incorrect plug on it. The seller offered to remedy the situation by supplying an adaptor, however the OP elected to have a refund as per their right under SOGA. I do not see where the OP has lied?
