20GB limit...

...I am thinking of getting BT infinity with 20GB limit. I usually check emails, facebook, reaserahc holidays, keep track of bank accounts etc. Will this be enough? I don't know whether I would be better with an unlimited package.

It would be more than enough for those purposes. But if that's all you intend to do, then you really don't need FTTC at all, unless you have an exceedingly slow ADSL service.
FTTC with a 20GB limit is a bit like having a Ferrari and never being able to drive it above second gear.: use FTTC to it's full potential and 20GB would be wholly inadequate.
Easy enough to decide by checking your current monthly data usage.

Last year, there were 40GB Limit deals, but lately it's just 20GB, but the Gift Card is £125, which used to be £100 max.

Unless I make an effort, I don't even use 10GB a month.

The £125 Sainsburys deal ends in 9 hours. Try to get it with Cashback through Quidco or TopCashBack. I would secure the deal today, and cancel if you change your mind. You CANNOT use the Gift Card for petrol and cigarettes, mind.

What is FTTC and ADSL?


Anybody know whether if I go for normal broadband but with Youview whether I can watch BT sport on the TV (rather than internet)?

The BT Infinity uses FTTC technology and the high end version offers speeds of upto 80GB with the final leg from the cabinet to your home being a phone line.

The alternative broadband technology called ADSL is also delivered along a phone line but all the way from the exchange, it can suport upto 24Mbps but for that the line would have to be unrealistically short so it gets sold as 16Mbps or sometimes 20Mbs

Can't answer the TV question though as I have even less interest in BT TV than I do in their retail broadband.

No you can't, CaptainWales. BT TV is offered over Infinity only.

But it looks like it's only if Fibre is not available in your area, so BT reluctantly lets you have it.


Even though the BT TV traffic does not count towards the 20GB monthly limit, it is still traffic on that line, so everything else will slow down when you are watching TV. If you only get 5Mbps, say, to start with, it will be rush hour every time you watch BT TV. This is probably why they much prefer that you get it with fibre, otherwise your next call will be a whining whinging "How do I stop the buffering, It's all your fault."

If you don't need more than 20GB it's truly pointless getting the expensive Infinity.

20GB goes in 2 days in my house so fast unlimted Internet is a great thing obviously but if we only needed 20GB per month then it would be better with a cheaper unlimited basic broadband supplier.

Facebook is just Facebook whether it's ADSL or 'fibre' or BT's over-hyped remarketing version, Infinity.

Anyone know if you can get a bundle with unlimited infinity 1 with tv package? It's just that when i try creating my own bundle when i add on infinity 1 with 20gb it adjusts monthly price correctly but doesn't add price when you add unlimited?? I would then add on the kids bolt on and evening/weekend calls.

That would then give me a package fairly similar to my variety tv package with sky with unlimited fibre. Not bothered about losing things like Atlantic as we very rarely use it. Losing the kids channels is where the grief lies!

I see they've slightly dropped the value of the sainsburys voucher overnight but quidco appear to be £200 for a infinity bundle with tv and calls. I would deffo go for this if i could select this.



ps-paying just over £62 for that variety package with sky. Phoned them yesterday for the first time to cancel tv side of things.

You can't add unlimited broadband to a package described as having a limit. You need to choose an unlimited broadband package.
