  • That said I could have told them this in conversation prior to our purchase of the car - they were very chatty and reliable at this stage, it was after our deposit was put down that communication ceased

This could be part of the problem. Dealers make very little on selling a new car and try to make their money on the ongoing servicing. If they know you are moving away, they will not get this work.

why do you make excuses for poor customer service

If you have had clarification of the contract being cancelled have they returned your deposit

Sometimes there is a reason, such as they have figured they are going to make an overall loss on the deal and would rather dump it.
  • I have only just been able to check my account and the deposit hasn't been paid back to me. Even though the order was in my name they never contacted me to inform me of the cancelled order they phoned my partner and said that they have refunded the money to me - this was yesterday afternoon

But they shouldnt, and as the Op has said they didnt know they were moving

Its not the way to treat customers.

I bought a car a few years ago from about 60 miles away, it had teething problems so I rang the local dealer who didnt really want to know, i guess becauseI had only just bought it but not from them.

I phoned another dealer still closer than where I bought it who were only to glad to help, guess where it went for its subsequent services.

I know thats a different analagy but my point is the garages do not know whats round the corner and how many customers they may lose by !!!!ing off just one
  • If you still want the same car you should be able to buy it from another dealer and if it costs more then you will be able to charge the original dealer for the extra costs involved. You are of course entitled to your deposit back.
  • Apparently the funds should be in my account tomorrow - it takes a few days to clear, never had that before?
If we were to order at another dealers and it was at a higher cost (which im pretty sure it will be as we did a lot of research) how would we go about getting the difference in cost from this dealership?
