Lip on my part worn tyre

I have noted over the years that not all tyres of same size are actually exactly the same width.
Certainly on cars i have owned over the years.
Toyo Proxes have always been wider than the previous tyres.
And on my current car the Acceleras are significantly narrower than more premium brands. They actually look like they are undersize as is the trend on some Veedubs and JDM cars.
I have never bothered to measure tyres to see if some tyres.
But it is strange.
In my experience it seems that cheaper brands tend to be the narrower ones.
I wonder if this is what the OP saw?
225/45 18 isn't a particularly wide or low profile tyre for modern cars.
Fairly standard on current shape Mondeos.
Certainly not going to be a £200 tyre.
I can get a good quality 275/40/19 105y for much less than that.
I assume the tyre they fitted was the correct speed and load for the car?
A lot of cars these days seem to need Extra Load tyres from what i have seen0 -
Out of interest, why did you only replace one tyre? On a FWD car (assuming that's what you have) I'd normally replace both front tyres to ensure that the wear was the same or similar on each side.0

Budget i suspect.
Best practice it may be but unless one tyre is a nearly new premium tyre and the other a nearly bald cheap tyre from China most people will not notice the difference in normal driving.
Obviously this assumes that both tyres are of the correct size, speed amd load rating.
I regularly see minicabs with a mixture or winter tyres and summer tyres running round London. Likely they are also 2nd hand and because used winters have 4mm usually some people may think they are a bargain.0 -
Goodyear Eagle F1A2's by any chance? They do have rim protection on them.0

It was a Michelin I'm pretty sure0

Have you tried driving with mismatched tyres......pound to a penny you wont notice any difference0
