It sounds normal, you went and bought a 2nd hand tyre, you should surely know it wasnt going to be same as the other tyres?

The tyres are what keeps the car on the road and help the car stop, buy them new!

    Not this again :wall:

Clearly does apply in this case as the OP does not know the first thing about tyres so would be better off buying new

If the lip was manufacturered then the fact it's part worn rather th an New is moot
  • So much flange talk, i'm off to knock one out.
  • Thanks for the helpful comments....and no I am certainly not an expert on tyres. The car does have expensive alloys so I can see the wisdom in the 'flange'. My issue was that it looked totally incongruous with the other tyres!
Yes, I could buy new, but I am on a money saving site, so i thought it would be pretty clear that I am of the mind set that I try and save money where possible! I didn't have the cash to buy a new low profile tyre last week, they're not cheap :-/

Part worn tyres maybe penny wise but pound foolish though.

  • It is a Goodyear tyre that still has the knobbly bits on it, so for £40, I am not too worried. It's a wide, low profile tyre, so new I was looking at £195. I do 10k miles a year. I would rather pay the 40 quid than near 200, for something that is practically good as new. Why should I be concerned bout it's origin? That is a genuine question btw, as I really cannot see why?
  • £195 for a new tyre? Blimey, what size was that?
  • Its a 225/45Z18
  • Bloody hell fire, plenty of new premium options available in that size for £150 or so (Pirelli, Continental, Goodyear, Dunlop, Bridgestone).

I'd have saved for a few weeks (unless of course you're a 'to the TWI and beyond' driver, in which case you may not have been able to wait).
