Why can I connect to TalkTalk via USB, but not ethernet?

Hi Zero, yes your ethernet device does need drivers. Have you got a seperate card or is it built onto your motherboard (most likely).
You should have the drivers on a Cd or on the motherboard setup cd, failing that a download is required.0 -
Thanks NBG,
I've just recently wiped my hard drive and done a fresh install of Windows XP. So now that I think about it I should also have installed the software on the Dell "Drivers and Utilities" CD...
Maybe the relevant drivers for the ethernet connection are contained on it. D'oh!something missing0 -

I loaded the drivers on my Dell CDs onto the pc, but it didn't help. My pc is a desktop Dell Dimension 2400 (not the 2400C).
I found this thread where someone had the same problem with a missing ethernet controller on the same pc.
http://www.computing.net/windowsxp/wwwboard/forum/136490.html
Posters there suggested downloading this driver...

I did this, but when I click on the "open" button of this downloaded file in the "downloads" box it states...This self-extracting zip file is part of a multidisk zip file. Please insert the last disk of the set.An error occured while unzipping. One or more files were not successfully unzipped. The error code is 110.
The poster in the above thread appears to have had exactly the same problem. Though there was no resolution to the problem in the thread.
Any ideas what might be wrong? Thanks!something missing0 -

There is nothing wrong with the self extracting archive file R64645.EXE (5811kb) if you have downloaded it correctly. Have you read the instructions on the download page? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Thanks guys
I seem to have it working now.
I hadn't been typing C:\DELL\DRIVERS\r64645.
into the run bar.something missing0
