which washing machine is the best?

Hiya after finding out 2 weeks ago that my current washer is on its way out I am now saving up for a new one.

Which make will last the longest before dying?

I've never had a machine last longer than 3 years.

We are a family of 5 so need a large drum, with decent spin and good energy rating.

Any advice on keeping a washer going longer than 3 years most welcome. Many thanks. Dawn x

Wow, only 3 years? I have just replaced mine, and it has lasted 11 years!
It was a bendix one I think.

I have now just bought a Beko one .http://ao.com/product/ECOWMB81445LW-Beko-Washing-Machine-White-26084.aspx 8KG, 1400 spin, A+++ rating I believe. Great for a family. Brilliant reviews.

How to make it last longer? Hmm, I am not sure really. Just things like not over loading, keep the door open when its empty to prevent mould around the seal, same with dispenser drawer.
I also run an empty wash cycle once a month, on the hottest setting with some lemon juice and vinegar.

I have just moved to a hard water area from a very soft one and I too want to know how to make it last as long as possible. I had read about vinegar but a closer look on the web has conflicting advice. Apparently the vinegar can make the plastic pipes brittle and does more harm than good. I hope an expert can come along with some definitive advice!

We bought a samsung ecobubble . The only reason being the 5 yr parts and labour warranty. There's normaly about 6 of us living in the house so the washer is on at least once every day, sometimes more, so cheaper models last about 2 yrs before breaking down. Think we paid around £350 for it. Had it for 18 months so far with no problems

A Miele should last ten years at least-but you'll pay accordingly. Otherwise go for a Bosch.

    Hi.
We had a Service machine that cost £400 plus eight years ago, which lasted less then four years. To replace it we bought a Curry's Essential for £159, its the best washer I have owned and it's still great after three years. I guess it is what your budge is, I was told to expect a machine to last not more then 4-5 years.

we have a Meile that came with a 10 year parts and labour warranty an offer that is still available today

John lewis have a Meile for £999.00 that you can claim the www.miele.co.uk/promotions/Free-10-Year-Warranty

the meile is the best machine that we have ever owned and I used to work in domestic appliance repair so know a thing or two about washing machines

with that machine above £1000.00 is a lot first off but it works out at £100.00 a year over the 10 years that the machine is covered by the warranty and any extra years that you get are a bonus

I have known Meile machines run for 15 years without a problem but you will get at least 10 years out of it

    Hung up my suit!
I have an AEG Lavamat 6100 which is now around 20 years old. I've never had to call out an engineer or replaced a part. All I've had to do is clean the filters and unblock the water level controller valve occasionally.
  • Miele. More than 20 years old - only one repair: just replaced motor brushes at £17.

Miele, if you think you will live that long. :)
  • My last washer lasted 12 years< hotpoint
I've had another hotpoint from the aqualitis range but went for an 11kg one due to having another kiddie.
Highly recommend it and its a life saver.

Hotpoint do 5 year parts! That's why I have the washer, fridge freezer, oven, hob and dishwasher by them ;)
